iBook & MacBook Pro, East Ukrainian Village, Chicago

When I started working at FeedBurner they hooked me up with a lightening fast 15″ MacBook Pro (pictured on the right here next to my dirty* iBook). It’s sweet. My only complaint is that it gets REALLY hot, like you can barely touch the strip of metal above the F keys. And when I unplug it and take it home it’s like carrying a portable heater in my backpack while waiting for the bus in 90 degree heat. I think it will be nice in the winter though! It sure beats the Dell & IBM laptops I had at my last job!

*Does everyone’s white iBook get this dirty or are my hands particularly filthy?

ooooo that is purty. my workplace provides some really nice HP laptops but shoot - it’s still not a brand new macbook pro.

If only I could think of an excuse to get one, then I would but … ungh, my poor wallet.

Have you seen that supposedly there’s some plastic film (of sorts) that blocks air from escaping the top of the machine? I thought I just saw something about that - maybe that’d help w/the heat? who knows.

    I’m rambling.

    Hi Rachelle -
I don’t have an iBook, but I’ve heard that those Mister Clean Erazers work great to tidy them up ;)

yeah I’ve been trying to get back in the swing of things after our vacation. w/all the photos taken over that week I thought it’d be a crime if they just sat on a hard drive. I’m *still* not done, even.

So uhhhhh yeah … RSS feed … gotta get moving on that one! :)
p.s. Yo, Sweden and Iceland are ILLMATIC. I highly recommend both as vacation spots.

Work was kind enough to get me a 15″ MacBook Pro as well. Its awesome, and the heat thing was a bit troublesome.

Have you done the recent SMC Firmware upgrade? I did that about 2 weeks ago and it runs much cooler now. I’m not sure what they changed, but it did do something.

Eep, that is pretty dirty. I can’t say my old white iBook really ever got that dirty, but it’s probably because Todd wouldn’t let it, haha.

What’s with East Ukranian Village? Did you move?

I’ve heard resetting the power management unit (pmu) and/or the pram might help with the heat. It’s pretty simple, here are the directions for resetting the pmu http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319

From what I’ve read on http://www.macintouch.com, there are few different possibilities that cause the excess heat.

There really isn’t anything to do about the stains, but forget the stains I’d do anything to even have an iBook G3!

Who cares about the iBook, look at the MacBook!
