Century 21

Century 21, across from the WTC site in Manhattan, is a great store where you can get some real deals, but it’s always busy as hell. Enough to make you walk out as soon as you walk in the door, if you’re not in the right state of mind. Luckily, I kept my head on long enough to get a Parcel handbag for $12.99 and some Kenneth Cole cufflinks that are normally about $45 for $15. The cufflinks were to replace the ones Dallas had, and paid full price for, that were stolen when my apartment was broken into.

Alternative titles: “It’s Hard To Hold Your Beer And Cigarette While Pitching a Kickball” or “What Will The Hipsters Tell Us Is Cool Next?” Although I must admit, I played kickball at SXSW a couple years ago. I sucked. Major.

Tien and Shannan were playing in a Brooklyn league so we went along to watch them play. Yvan joined in, but Jeannette & Jess and I just watched the game and watched someone’s dog who was playing.

I finally got to meet Kristin’s puppy, Jackson. She’s had him a couple months and, from what I’ve heard, he’s grown a lot already. He’s kind of in that ackward, puppy, “my feet are too big for my body” stage. So cute!

After brunch we went back to DUMBO, where Jeannette & Yvan live. Since it’s only a block or two away, we had to go to Jacques Torres. We totally love Jacques since he gave us that private, behind the scenes tour.. and even before that I was totally digging on him. The store had totally exploded with Easter candies and elaborate chocolate molds, but I just stuck with one small cup of hot chocolate, hot chocolate to go, and some chocolate covered macadamia nuts.

That Sunday we wanted to get brunch and called a few places to see if they’d be busy. “Well, it IS Easter,” they reminded us… oh. right. ok. We just wanted to get some food, starving from our hangovers. Jeannette suggested we avoid crowds and check out this place she likes in Long Island City, Queens called Tournesol. It’s French. And while we were over there we could check out the building where Jeannette & Yvan are moving to. If they ever sell their current place, and if the building ever gets done being built!

Tournesol was really good and the owners/waitstaff were really friendly and didn’t rush us at all. Everyone got the french onion soup, then we each got our own entree (hamburger for me), then we all shared a dessert because Jeannette said we had to. Like we needed an arm twisting on that one!
