Pumpkin-Carrot Cheesecake Flapjacks :: Bongo Room, Wicker Park, Chicago

On Monday John and I were talking about restaurants in Wicker Park and I confessed that I’ve never been to Bongo Room because I’m not patient enough to wait in the long brunch lines that form every weekend. He sent me this photo of the Banana, White Chocolate & Macadamia Nut Pancakes he had last weekend and told me to run (RUN!) to Bongo Room.

Yesterday my dad came down for the day and we went to Bongo Room for breakfast at lunch time. There was no waiting. I got exactly what John recommended (graham cracker crusted banana pancakes topped with warm maple creme sauce and white chocolate creme anglaise) and my dad had Pumpkin-Carrot Cheesecake Flapjacks (graham cracker crusted pancakes topped with warm vanilla bean cream sauce and cinnamon & suger creme anglaise). It was like having 2 huge, decadent, delicious plates of dessert for lunch. Yum!

There aren’t many pancakes worth $14, but I’ve heard these actually are worth it. They certainly look like it.

im pretty sure they were more like $8 - $9, not $14.

Mmm . . . Macadamia nut pancakes . . . Yes, I *could* make them myself, but good lord, look at this!

How would I get to this place via the L? We’re staying in River North, closest to the Grand stop on the Red Line.

Take the Red Line south 2 stops to Washington then transfer to the Blue Line. Go towards OHare but only 4 stops to Division. You’ll get out at the intersection of Milwaukee/Ashland/Division. Walk about 6 blocks northeast on Milwaukee and there you are!

I think it’s actually closer to the Damen stop than Division?

Yeah, decadent is the right word for them. I had to stop eating them, because I was getting sick from the sugar high.

Word to the wise: You can order just 1 or 2 pancakes, instead of the full order of 3, and the price is almost proportional.

you might be right. i’m used to coming from the division side. you can get off on either damen or division, they’re both at intersections of milwaukee.

good tip re ordering 1 or 2 pancakes because i didnt finish mine anyway.

Had those great pancakes this past weekend.
OMG they were by far the best breakfast food I have ever had. We had two to share with our other breakfast food..one pumpkin and a banana one. They
were under $8 each..worth that and more. Heard there was another place of theirs elsewhere in the city. Worth the wait…give them your cell #.. relax & window shop on a short walk..Very clean and good coffee.

I thought my eyes were gonna explode out of my head cartoon style after seeing those pancakes — and make the old-timey car horn noise — “ooowwwoooooga …owoooooga”

Their other place used to be called Room 12, but apparently it is now also called Bongo Room, in the South Loop.

If you order singles, you still get all the delicious toppings, don’t worry. And then you can get ultra-variety — order one each of several different kinds of pancakes! :-P~

Hi Rachelle! It’s funny you went to the Bongo Room this week and posted these pancake pictures, because I’ve been visiting Chicago this week and we actually went to the Bongo Room yesterday, and I debated ordering the Pumpkin Cheesecake pancakes, but went with the Veggie breakfast croissant instead because i’ve been eating sooooooo much junk and sweets and heavy stuff this trip that those might have put me over the edge! (looking at those pictures, i can now guarantee i’d be put over the edge!) This has been my first time in chicago, and I’ve really loved it!
