Do People Still Say “Tar-jay?”

Target, Bucktown, Chicago

A lot of my friends have been out of town since last week for a wedding and I’ve had access to not one, but two cars. It’s a super-special treat because I don’t have a car and am not used to being able to just walk outside, hop in and go. So, is it really sad that I was giddy about driving the car to Target? I haven’t been to Target for two years! And I’ve only ever driven a car around Chicago one other time. It’s weird because I know streets and the grid from riding on the bus, taking the el and walking, but I’m not used to their little one-way quirks and things like that. I’ve been taking the round-about way everywhere. The scenic route, as my dad would say. Not really lost, but not very time or gas efficient either! Also, it’s weird to see everything from a slightly different point of view. Like instead of walking down the sidewalk and looking at things, now I’m in the middle of the road looking at them. Cool, but strange.

I used to say Tar-Jay, then I heard Katie Couric say it on the Today Show…
