Did You Think You’d Seen the Last of Ruby?

Ruby, East Ukrainian Village, Chicago

Actually, I did. But today my iBook started misbehaving and after 3 1/2 hours at the Apple Store’s Genius Bar, it had to be sent in for repair. Luckily I was able to back up my data to my external hard drive. It’s hard to get used to Ruby now: her slow speed, her rounded monitor, her browser crashing when it tries to play Flash, her keyboard, her big ass taking up all the space on my desk. But I’m glad she was still hanging around. I’d just spoken to Matt about selling her. Good thing I didn’t yet.

There must be something in the air because Dallas spent 2 full days of the weekend rebuilding his desktop when it crashed on Saturday and Killian’s laptop died this past weekend too.

1)Why the name Ruby? I’m sure you’ve explained before. I’m intrigued.

2)Chicago has a neighborhood called the Ukrainian Village? That’s cool.

3)I am sure glad I do not understand Tien’s comment.

Ruby Baby (Donald Fagen, The Night Flight, 1982)

I got a girl and Ruby is her name
She don’t love me, but I love her just the same
Ruby Baby how I want you
Like a ghost I’m gonna haunt you
Ruby Baby when will you be mine

Each time I see you baby my heart cries
I’m gonna steal you away from all those guys
From the sunny day I met you
Made a bet that I would get you
Ruby Baby when will you be mine

I got a girl and Ruby is her name
I’d give the world just to set her heart aflame
    Got some lovin’ money too
Gonna give it all to you
Ruby Baby when will you be mine
