Sorry to make you look at more food porn today (not really). Last night Erin and I went to x/o for drinks and dinner. Maybe too many drinks, is that possible? It was a great time. I don’t spend nearly as much time with that girl as I should and the food was excellent.

x/o serves small plates for sharing and recommends 3 plates/person. I was surprised by the largish portions for a “small plate.” At one point we were talking about dessert but by the time our 3rd set of plates came out we were totally stuffed. Erin went to x/o when they first opened. See her Chicagoist review . .. she liked it, but there was definitely room for improvement on some dishes. She says that last night was way better than the first time she went. Awesome.

Oh, also, the thought of oxtail kind of repulses me.. like how do they get meat off the tail of an ox? And sometimes I’ve seen it in hardcore Asian restaurants and was very afraid. Same with Erin. We decided to be adventurous, though, and on the recommendation of our waiter we tried a dish with oxtail in it. The flavor was really excellent, but I remember commenting that if I was more sober when we were eating it that I’d probably have a problem with the texture of the meat.. or with it not being as lean as I normally like. Still, I was glad we tried it.

    Awwww! I heart you, Rachelle!

So I looked up oxtail in the Food Lover’s Companion and it said that oxtail is most likely taken from the tail of beef or veal, not the ox!

still. GROSS! but it tasted good

Hey .. When you gonna get on a diet.

All that stuff is so fattening. You should be drinking water, and eating chicken breast with no sauce and eating peanut butter ganola bars.

Water is the real secret, stay away from soda pop, even that diet stuff isn’t worth a flip.

Enjoy all those mixed drinks and booze, cause when diabities creeps on you… Your going to be singing a totally different song. There is a whole lot of sugar in those drinks, some wine is ok.

and there’s no sugar in wine? HA ~!

Where does Allen Henn get off telling me what I can or cannot eat? Maybe I do eat granola and chicken breast every other day of the week. You have no idea, dude. AND I rarely drink mixed drinks/booze, thank you very much.

As a fellow cook and woman who is not afraid to eat or drink a Dew at 8:15AM, I’m with ya. I’m not going to live my life in fear of Little Debbies. Life’s too damn short. Moderation is the key to everything. Eat fries at lunch, do a little more on the treadmill. I wish more people would get clued into that.

You can step off the curb tommorrow and get hit by a bus, do you really want your last meal to be a Nutrigrain? I think not.

Eat on!!! And keep posting the pics…we rarely get out anywhere that doesn’t have children’s menu so I eat vicariously.
