Ahh! Don’t Make Me Speak!

Being the naturally shy, behind-the-scenes, just get it done, details person that I am, tonight I did something I totally would never do. I sat on a panel called “Writing For Blogs” along with 2 other people and presented and answered questions at an Independent Writers of Chicago monthly meeting. I hauled Matt & Scott along with me to sit in the audience for support, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d feared. Most everyone there was starting out at ground zero with questions like “What is a blog?” and since I’ve been blogging for.. I don’t know.. like 5 years, and have been doing Chicagoist for about a year and a half, I was pretty comfortable. Hopefully I was some help to some people wanting to get into it more.

The photos – The meeting was held at the Chicago Athletics Association building at 12 S. Michigan Ave. The “Members Only” sign is intimidating, but it was pretty easy to get in. On the bottom, Matt and Scott and I passed this on the way walking to the El/bus. I’d never seen it before but Scott and Matt said they always light it up for different sporting events and things. It said “Sox Pride” but you can only see “Sox” from where we were standing.

I have another meeting to attend on Friday. A breakfast Business Wire event where I’ll be on another panel on blogging called “Navigating the Blogosphere.” I hope it goes as easy as the one tonight. And extra special thanks to Scott and Matt for being there for moral support tonight!

I’m sure your charm and experience was more than enough to get you through that event. I’ll bet the next one will be just as easy.

It certainly comes through in your posts.

i’d be the opposite and “not” want people there who know me – it’s easier for me to speak in front of people i’ve never met.

If I’m not mistaken (and I could very well be, being in Honolulu and all!), that’s the Blue Cross/Blue Shield building, which was lit up with “Y-ME” for the Y-ME breast cancer walk in May, as well. Very cool.
