Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass :: Blue Water Grill, River North, Chicago

Marscaponian Chocolate Torte :: Blue Water Grill, River North, Chicago
I always wanted to go to Blue Water Grill in New York so when one opened in Chicago I made it be known that this is where I wanted to be taken out for my birthday! The food was great. Cooked (or not cooked) perfectly. This is what we had:
» “Tuna on the Rocks”: Sashimi Big Eye Tuna, Lemon, Mint, Himalayan Mountain Rock Salt. The light hint of flavors and slight taste of salt on the sashimi was awesome. Also, it was served with lotus root chips which were kind of interesting.
» Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass with with cured lemon, broccoli rabe, and pistachio-tomato chutney. This chutney seemed like a weird combo, but tasted really great. And the fish was cooked perfectly.
» Sesame-Chile Crusted Big Eye Tuna with wilted greens, asparagus, and citris vinaigrette.
» Dessert was a special of the day - Mascarponian chocolate torte with carmelized blueberries and chocolate mint ice cream. This was my favorite part of the meal. The torte was so light and rich and the ice cream was crusted with chocolate and probably the best chocolate mint ice cream I’ve ever had.
My only complaint - I don’t like to be like super stuffed after dinner, but the portions were on the small side. My entree was $26. For that price maybe they could have at least thrown a few more broccoli flowerettes on the plate, huh?

btw, to the large group of people next to us who seemed to be in town on business: Sushi is NOT meant to be eaten with a FORK!

Maybe it’s just me… but perhaps sushi places should stop calling themselves ‘grills’!

I love Blue Water Grill in NYC. It’s one of my favorite restaurants. The food is incredible for brunch, lunch, and dinner and the decor is breathtaking since it used to be a bank.
