My parents might have gotten me the “elegant,” “grown up” flowers, but they still know I’m just a kid. Today a big box of candy came in from Old Time Candy .. supposed to be from the 80s. Some things seem old time, and some seem to be things that are still popular today. I was pleased to see a a strip of those fizz things that are fruit flavored and fizz in your mouth. I remember getting them at the theater.. but I remember them being called FIZZ, not Zotz.
Once again my coworkers love me for my parents sending candy.

Damn, I want to come over and eat some of that candy right now ….

everyone is just like digging through the box saying what they remember about the candy .. either a memory or else whether the candy itself was good or crap. the only thing we couldnt find was one guy said he loved jawbreakers and there arent any regular jawbreakers besides the atomic fireballs and warheads.

Ok, do they have the following in the box?
* NERDS?
* Mary Janes?
* Pop Rocks?
* Chuckles?

everything but mary janes.. are those like slow pokes? speaking of which.. there’s no slow pokes!

Mary Janes are peanut butter candy, I think. They came in a red-and-yellow wrapper and were probably throwbacks to our parents’ era.
You know what were classic? Cigarettes made of gum. Do they still sell those? What a terrible idea. They tasted awful, too, once you got past that little puff of powder “smoke.”

I used to love that Fizz candy, I remember getting them at the movie theatre too. And Bottle Caps, and those colored candy dots that were stuck to the paper in rows and everytime you ripped one off you always got a little bit of paper too. We used to have Candy Cigarettes too. They were just a tiny white tube of hardened sugar that was died red at one end. They still have those, but now they call them Candy Sticks and they dont have a red tip.

i didn’t remember bonkers until you said “Bonkers, it bonks you out” .. those commercials were lame! there isnt any in the box.
i have some candy cigarettes that i bought at economy candy in ny a while ago. just hanging on to them bc they’re so NOT politically correct now.. i don’t think they’ll ever come back. same with big league chew.
bottle caps are in there, but those paper dots aren’t.

You ate all that back in the 80s? I’m surprised your teeth survived! haha

wanna hear something sad? Because I’m from Canada, our candy is different here and the only candy I recognize out of that pile is Starburst, Milk duds, runts, and gobstoppers — oh oh and of course the candy necklaces. I’m so deprived eh?

Nancy - Deprived… NO WAY!! As a displaced Canadian (yah, yah, contributing to the “brain drain”), I always stock up on the Coffee Crisp and Aero’s when I go back home. Although I recently discovered these in my grocery store here in the Garden State… in the FOREIGN FOOD aisle!
