Coinstar, Wicker Park, Chicago
Nancy came down on Saturday morning. We spent most of the day on Michigan Avenue shopping (I got my first birthday gift! and a few other things I needed) but before we went downtown I made Nancy drive me like 5 blocks to Jewel with the big container of change.
Mom and Edwin had the closest guesses.
my hand looks wrinkly – eww.
Jeeez… $165 in da small bottle?!!! Enuf to pay two days of poking grodge on 7th avenue. Since you now from attatan do you miss da city?
$16 to the evil Coinstar empire?
Sigh.
For $!6 I would have counted it.
I love that thing:

doesn’t your bank provide that service for free? I just took my change jar into BankOne and they did it for no charge. $16 is ridiculous.
i use citibank and they dont do that. im willing to pay the fee for convenience.
i’d pay for convenience too.
Actually Joel was the closest at $172.45. You asked for guesses on how much was in the jar (181.65), not how much would end up in your pocket (165.48). Bank Mutual counts coins for free too, but it takes forever and you have to sit there and wait for them to do it.
455 quarters! That’s a lot of loads of laundry…
I suppose since I’m a bank teller that’s cheating?
I love to count change…
So many pennies!!!
I know several banks that allow non-customers to use their no-fee coin-cointing machines
I Rachelle, I am a French girl living in NY and I often read your blog…I love the pictures you take. About your coin jar, I just went today to the Commerce bank with my pennies and they do that for free even if you are not a Bank customer !! So next time go there, you will save precious dollars
I also have my bank account at Citibank, (unfortunately). Anyway, they charge 5%, not 10% like Coinstar.
Never thought I would be defending/promoting Citibank.
Well, I would’ve counted it for $1 ! Of course, you would’ve had to pay shipping fees to Virginia which probably would’ve cost $20+, so maybe not…
Go Coinstar. Now that’s a million dollar idea.
