Honolulu, Oahu
The last day of our vacation was last Saturday. That afternoon we flew out of Honolulu on a redeye and landed in Chicago early Sunday morning.
The morning of our last day I got up early and packed all our stuff. Then I took a walk around Waikiki trying to soak it all up one last time.
All vacation Kathy had been building up these malasadas from Leonard’s Bakery in Honolulu so we stopped by to try some on the last day. Malasadas are portugeuse fried dough….. and soooooooooo yummy. They tasted like they were fresh out of the fryer when we ordered them. I scarfed down 1 1/2 in like 3 seconds and had another one when we were at the airport.
Finally, we shopped around and went to the old Dole Cannery, which is a kind of crappy shopping center, to kill time before our flight.
That’s it. Im sad to be done with vacation, both the real vacation and the virtual one here!

Mark, Where did you live over there?

I lived at Hickam AFB, which is inbetween the Honolulu Airport and Pearl Harbor from 1976 (2 years old) to 1987(13 years old). Living in Hawaii was such a unique experience that I still consider Honolulu my “hometown” along with Redlands, CA, where I spent the balance of my formative years.

We did the same thing with Gelato! Except some days we had it twice a day. That’s normal, right?

Uncle Rick loves Gelato! Last year, when we were in Ottawa Canada he had it every day!! Sometimes three times a day !~ and triple scoops ! Trying to get every flavor in a week ! Loved it ! YUM!~~

I think they fry up the malasadas in small batches all day long. When I was there a couple of years ago I ate three so fast that I forgot to take a picture. Thanks for the great photos!

Hey, you practically visited my office, which is (temporarily) located in the office building adjacent to the Dole Cannery shops. I don’t work on Saturdays, though.
I LOVE the Leonard’s malasadas. And my husband thinks you have great taste with the Zippy’s chili, too. Next time you’re here, try their chili nachos. :o)

BTW, sorry if I’m way off base with this, but is Dallas your significant other, or are you guys just friends? Just curious, since you’ve visited with his family and all. Also, is he from Hawai`i?

Crissy I’m not one to gossip but as long as you brought it up my impression has been Rachelle and Dallas are not romantically attached but why dont we get the scoop from Rachelle herself. What’s the story on this Rachelle? Enquiring minds want to know!

I think Rachelle is just a playa….

Um.. did you see the “black out” post? Rachelle and Dallas playing Jenga in the middle of the night. hmmm. What time was it? Maybe he was just in the neighborhood. Isn’t it obvious people!?

Could have been a 100% plutonic reason for Dallas being there at that time of the night. Did you ever watch the old “That Girl”? Any and everytime old Donald Hollanger got caught with Ann Marie in the middle of the night, there was always a reasonable explanation to be had!
