I have a bunch of old recipes that are on recipe cards in a recipe box in my kitchen cupboard. They’re all really old and pre email/internet. Once in a while instead of going to Epicurious or All Recipes or another online site I’ll take out the box and make a recipe inside. I made this crab salad for a barbecue recently. When I flipped it to the back I realized I’ve been making this recipe for 10 years. It made me feel really old to have 10 year old recipe card!

I love how you have dates and the events listed for each time you’ve made that recipe. I have a peanut brittle recipe and microwave fudge recipe I’ve been making since 1985 as Christmas presents for my relatives. I can’t believe this will be the 20th year I make it!

I love the dates and events too. It turns a recipe card into a keepsake.

Wow, you made that for my High School Graduation! Your crab salad recipe is one of the few cards that we have that I go back to on occasion.

My Grandma would always put the date/event on the back of the card to ensure she didn’t make the same dish too often for the same event, I guess it’s the Midwestern grandma’s answer to Hollywood’s not wearing the same dress twice.

oh my, Shell, that brings back memories… I think you first brought if for Dick’s graduation party and it was a hit! At first, you wouldn’t give up that recipe! We all LOVED it and still pull ours out to this day! Neat with the dates and events on the back too! Some recipes are just “keepers” like our SpecialK one.

Please don’t use imitation crab meat. Euch.

Because I love to cook and try new things, I had everyone who attended my bridal shower bring several of their favorite recipes for me. I really treasure having those cards written in the person’s own hand. Some of the people that attended are no longer living so it’s always nice to go back through my vault of recipes and see those shaky-cursive handed cards with all those helpful hints personally added.
On a side note, I’m going to try that crab salad for Evan’s 5th birthday party next month. Yum!

Yeah, that was after the exodus. I had forgotten Alison’s last name. Seeing it was a suprise for me. Brings back memories.
