After eating at the Uptown Snack Shop, Andrew gave us a little tour of Uptown. It was a beautiful day and I always enjoy a walk after eating. Plus, Andrew is a great tour guide so it was fun. This was only my second time to Uptown ever so it was also very informative and helped me put things in order in my head. Like, for example, I knew that Riviera, Green Mill and the Aragon were all “for up north” but I didn’t realize they were so close to where we were and that they were all within blocks of each other.

While we were passing the Riviera we noticed that Bright Eyes is playing there. We saw some kids waiting outside, I assume it was for that show. We talked about how we’d tried to like Bright Eyes but it was just too depressing… how he’s emo to the max. Later on we were looking at some street art and Conor Oberst, aka Bright Eyes, walked past. I was changing my CF card when he came by so I only got a couple not very good photos.

Thanks for the tour Andrew!

Holy cow. Kids, this is your Uncle Scott talking. You do not need to start lining up at noon for the Bright Eyes show just to get a good spot near the stage. Just show up two hours before with all the other kids and elbow your way through. Meanwhile, spend the time listening to Depeche Mode and Cure albums and Bright Eyes won’t seem to impressive anymore and you’ll be able to devote your time to something more important like having sex.

i thought it was funny that they were all lined up already to see him when just a block or two away he was strolling down the street.

I came across you page by doing a search for “shedd aquarium” on google.

I just wanted to say, I love the photos you’ve taken. It’s nice to see the less touristy parts of Chicago.

Hey, just happened upon your site. FYI, the other guy in the pictures with Oberst is Todd Baechle, the singer of the faint.

I stumbled on this site courtesy of google images. It is amazing how much has changed on this stretch of Uptown since then, your snapshots are already kinda sorta “historical”. Well done.
