Wrigley Building, Magnificent Mile, Chicago

A few days ago the clocks on the Wrigley tower were way out of sync. Today I noticed some of the hands are missing. What gives?

  1. Rachelle – I have an “inside connection” @ Wrigley and they told me that are installing a new lighting system and doing some repairs and preventative maintenance. (They are changing the top of the clocktower light to blue in honor of “Prevent Child Abuse America”.

    Hope that helps… 🙂

  2. i was wondering the same thing, clint. at first i thought it was something wierd in the photo but then i walked back over to the window and there’s def red on the building. maybe scott can ask his friend.

  3. The red square is just tape holding a clear piece of plasic on the corner of the building to protect it from the elements. The area under the plastic is either under repair, or in danger of further damage from moisture. The red tape is so that the people working on the terra cotta can see where the damaged area is, so that they don’t spend all day looking for it when they go back to finish the repairs. They do this often with green tape on buildings in the loop. I have seen it from the “L” on the building on the NE corner of Van Buren and Wells, also on a building on Wabash and Lake.

  4. They completed similar repairs, with similar tape, on the Tribune building. Hmmm…Maybe its karma coming back to bite the good ol Colonel McCormick for having all those stone relics stolen from all over the world.
