Today we celebrated Easter and dad’s, Amanda’s and Stephanie’s birthdays. It was nice enough to be outside for a while, we had a great dinner, and then opened gifts and had cake.

Shuffleboard

Shuffleboard at Toons, Lakeview, Chicago

Last night at Toons Dallas and I beat Killian and Danny playing Shuffleboard. I’d never played before. It was fun and luckily for me is a game you don’t really need that much coordination to play.

When I lived in San Diego there was a bar that had ping pong in the middle of it. Ping pong is the most horrible game to have in a bar. Especially for me. I have very little coordination to start out with, let alone after a few drinks, and also have a tendency to not know my strength and forget that you only have to tap a ping pong ball. I think I hit every person in the bar with that ball. I remember one time I went up to the bar to get a drink and accidentally stepped on some guy’s foot. When I apologized he said “that’s ok, you hit me in the head with the ping pong ball earlier.” Incidentally it was in that bar that I first learned to play beer pong from some cute boys visiting from Ireland.

Drilling

Most of the action at the Trump Tower construction site right now is drilling. Everywhere. The top three photos above were taken in the morning. The bottom photo is the same hole but in the evening.

If I understand this right, the metal tube in the ground that they drill inside is the caisson and the supports in the bottom photo are rebar? Am I close?

Yesterday was Benito Juarez‘s birthday. If he were alive he’d now be 199 years old. If you pass by the Plaza of the Americas on Michigan Ave., make sure to give him a shout out. He’s an old man and I’m sure he’d appreciate it.
