Chicago Flower & Garden Show

Chicago Flower & Garden Show
Chicago Flower & Garden Show, Navy Pier, Chicago

To be honest, the only reason I wanted to go to the Chicago Flower & Garden Show was to practice taking photographs with the manual functions of my camera. Unforch, the lighting was terrible. Washed out in some spots, weird shadows in other. It is in a convention center, afterall. Still it was nice to smell the flowers, see some color, and feel some soft green grass.

I’m not terribly happy with most of these photos, but here’s the rest, after the jump.

I know you didn’t like them but I enjoyed your pics of the flower show. Especially the vibrant colors!

lighting seems a tad dark, no?

yeh, the cieling in that building is about 60 feet tall and the lights are in the ceiling. And they’re weird like spot lights. So one plant would be totally washed out and the next would be in the dark. Also, lots of shadows cast from things around it, including myself when I’d lean in to take a photo.

    Thanks, Matt!

Your pics turned out better than mine did! I went on Saturday and took some pics, but most were either dark or blurry. I think I only got one halfway decent pic, and it was the first one I took.

Now how’d I miss that garden with the Chicago landmarks? We didn’t see that one…

I just got back from Mexico, while I was there I met an American from Chicago and I’ve personally never been there but I told him every day I look at photos from Chicago and it looks like a very beautiful place to live.

I just thought it was kind of neat that even though I’m all the way up in Canada, I know what parts of Chicago look like.

Just thought I’d share that with you

I think the photos are great too. LH would love that show! This makes me long for spring. I really need to start buying fresh flowers again for my desk each week.

For the conditions you were dealing with, I think the photos came out damn good.

Funny thing about going to flower shows… I took a girl I was dating to one last year because I knew she was really into flowers and gardening but you have to be careful with that sort of thing (scored major points for it by the way). If you are walking around as a couple, it will be assumed you are married. There were several merchants that tried to sell us things for “our” house (like new windows, patio furniture, and a gazebo) and several others that tried to get me to buy something by saying “You know you’re wife would love this.” Very weird when we had only known each other about a month or so.

The Real “Garden in the City”

Earlier in the week Chicagoist stopped by the Chicago Flower & Garden Show and one of the coolest things there was definately a display called All Aboard, Chicago. In it, miniature trains run past vignettes of 30 local landmarks including Wrigley Field…

I like the daffodil photo. We just got some daffodil’s last week because the American Cancer Society was having Daffodil Days.

Wonderful pictures, especially the 5th one with red tulips. These are my lovely flowers.
Good quality of images and vivid colors - perfect work!
