Empty Lot, East Ukrainian Village, Chicago
Last night I came home from work and was turning to go to into my house and some yellow caution tape caught my eye. I walked farther down the sidewalk and the house next to the one next to mine is… GONE. Ok, so I don’t usually walk past my house in the direction of the demolished house, I usually get to my house and go inside, but still. I’m a pretty observant person.. and a house doesn’t just disappear without making any noise, so I felt kind of like a dolt for not even noticing!

My guess is the bank took it.

i’d bet a lot of money that a developer bought it for the land, demolished it, and is building new condos.

The old ones in that neighborhood were dropping like flies during my last 6 months in Chicago, especially on the first few blocks south of Division/west of Marshfield. I had a few “No, there was *definitely* something there yesterday” moments… condos indeed. The change in that neighborhood from just 5 years ago is unbelievable; I don’t love where it’s headed (or arrived?? I’m creeping toward the one year mark myself), but I’m not a big fan of how it was either.
