Sam the Shoe Doctor, The Loop, Chicago
The old man at Sam the Shoe Doctor fixed my shoes up nice. One of my boots had a big gouge/scuff from when I fell walking (Dallas says I tripped over the cross walk because there was nothing in the street, but I beg to differ!). The other fix was a heel that busted on a pair of sandles. Somehow this morning I got motivated to go pick them up even though when I woke up the temperature outside was one degree. The shoes look great but I can’t feel my legs.

*lol* I know what you mean about not feeling your legs! It was 13 degrees here…the thing is that here is NC! 13 degrees in NC??? WTF! Are uo freaking kidding me? *lol* Yesterday was 23 and I thought that was cold. The sick thing is that it’s nice, sunny blue skies outside. It’s like some sick joke egging you to go outside. From in here it looks like a nice 70 degree day. I figured out why northern states got cobblers though. You do a heck of a lot more walking than we do and walking in different weather conditions. I bet the shoe doctor makes a ton more than I do!

I hate the winter. The cold, the snow, the almost complete lack of sunlight. Hate it.

Hey don’t complain. Did you hear about the temperature being NEGATIVE 54 degrees in Embarrass, Minnesota?! And that’s not even the record. The record low was -60 degrees on 2/2/96 in Tower, MN, about 10 miles north of Embarrass. Yikes! An article in USA Today says people still ran out for their morning coffee, “they just left their cars running.” Um, I think I’d lock myself in my house.

Does anyone else remember when this place’s Lake street store exploded on a spring Sunday afternoon? The flammable polishing materials had filled the store, and a thermostat spark kicked off the blast. Amazingly, nobody was hurt. But the store was ruined.
