Jessica, Rachelle, Stephanie :: Shedd Aquarium, Museum Campus, Chicago

From January 14 – 20th the Shedd Aquarium is offering free general admission. The regular entrance fee is $23/adult and $16/kid, so Richard, Amanda, Stephanie, Jessica, Nancy, Josh, Riley, Melissa, Nick, Noah, Trinity, and Gabe came down from Milwaukee to join me in facing the cheapskate crowds – you had to constantly remind yourself to be tolerant or you’d go freaking insane but we still had a fun time anyway.

Other aquariums I have been to – Birch Aquarium at Scripps in San Diego, SeaWorld San Diego, SeaWorld Orlando, the Seattle Aquarium, the New York Aquarium at Coney Island, and Oriental Garden in Chinatown (ha!). Shedd was probably the best of them all, although I did really like how the Seattle Aquarium had an area where you could touch things like rays and sea anemone and sea cucumbers.

  1. wholly mackeral!! those photos are fantastic. What’s your technique? flash? settings?
Great camera. How does that A95 handle red.eye?

Would you recommend Oriental Garden Restaurant for a dinner in the city with friends from Westchester? over and above the aquarium which i must assume they have.

  2. Arthur – I would only recommend Oriental Garden if you had someone who speaks Chinese with you. It was awesome but I remember our group being a mess until Yim, who arrived late, got there and could read the Chinese menu and actually speak to our waitstaff who seemed to not know much English.

Also, I can’t honestly say what setting I had on for each of these photos because I was messing around with them so much and didn’t really take note. Yesterday was just a day for me to play with stuff. You’ll notice I accidentally had the ISO speed too high for the last two photos and they got kind of noisy. Lots of PS red-eye correction in the last photo.

Edwin – I’d considered titling the post “Nemo: Found” or “I found Nemo at the Shedd” or something like that but then forgot.

  3. I love the photos, I was just showing a co worker and we have no idea how you can get such clear shots without flash glare…did you use a tripod?

Maybe I’m just not that talented at taking photos as you are…they look great!

  4. Yea, I should have titled it something like “Nemo: Found at the Shedd! Performing daily ’til Tuesday!” *lol*

Man, it’s snowing here today! What is it about people here in the south unable to drive when there’s a little accumulation? I heard there’s been a ton of accidents already and it’s only started around 10:30am or so. CrAzY! I just hope most of the accidents clear up by the time I got to leave an hour and a half from now. My guess is that it won’t be!

  5. OMG, I was so wrong about the traffic. I left at 3:45pm and got home at 9:30pm. That has got to be the worse traffic ever that I’ve been a part of. 5hours and 45 mins might not sound that bad, but that’s a 9 1/2 mile drive that usually takes 15-20 minutes! Unreal! I told you people here don’t know how to drive in this stuff! I’m just glad to get home without incident! =)
