Thai Fish Sauce and Lime Chicken

I just got a subscription to Cooking Light magazine and last night we tried the first recipe from it, Thai Fish Sauce Lime Chicken. Lots of chili sauce made it a spicier than I like and the sauce was a bit runny. If I’d remembered to log on to the Cooking Light web site I’d have seen user comments saying to cut down on the lime juice and that the sauce came out thin. Next time.

Dallas called his mom recently and got the secret Crowell Family Salad Dressing recipe. We had that tossed with some baby romaine before our main entrees.

Click the link below for the Thai Fish Sauce and Lime Chicken recipe (Cooking Light only provides recipes online to subscribers).

Cake Sculpting with Mark Seaman, Westfield North Bridge Mall, Magnificent Mile, Chicago

Yesterday when I went to get lunch at the mall, pastry chef and cake stylist Mark Seaman from Marked for Dessert was doing a presentation on cake sculpting. Some of the cakes on his website are amazing. Hard to even imagine cutting and eating them. I’m sure they’re mega expensive!

Selling Graceland

Eternal Silence, Graceland Cemetery, Chicago

A couple weeks ago I sold two photographs that I took in Graceland Cemetery of a monument called Eternal Silence. One of the photos is shown above.

The author who purchased the photos writes books about odd things found in a geographic area. So far he’s got Weird NJ and Weird USA under his belt and right now he’s working on Weird IL. There’s also a website about the strange finds and they’ve even been featured on The History Channel.

A sidenote about the Eternal Silence monument – The statue is made of bronze and as bronze is exposed to the elements over the years it turns bluish and black like you see in the photo. The coloring is what gives the figure it’s creepy look. But when I toured the cemetery they were talking about restoring the statue to it’s original state so that it would look like brand new shiny bronze and won’t have this blue/black patina. I’m so glad I got to photograph the monument before they restored it.

Posing for a Portrait Drawing

Artist, Washington Blue Line Stop, Chicago

Tuesday night I let the homeless (I assume?) wheelchair-bound artist in the Washington Blue Line platform draw my portrait. I was bundled up, wearing a scarf and had just gotten done at the gym. I think it looks only vaguely like me. In his defense, I was looking down at my camera a lot when he was telling me to look up. Also, he only gets a couple minutes to draw each person because he has to hurry before the train comes.

Falling Ice

Chicago has more falling ice signs than I’ve seen in my entire life. They range from very professional to “let’s tape a piece of paper onto a caution cone”. For more discussion, check out my Chicagoist post on the subject.
