Puppet Theatre on Wheels, Magnificent Mile, Chicago

Cat Puppets, Magnificent Mile, Chicago

How Can She Hear Anything?, Magnificent Mile, Chicago
Yesterday I was walking by the Borders on Michigan Avenue and saw this strange puppet show. There’s someone in the booth, obvs, and all they do is play music and move around two cat puppets. Sounds like an easy way to make some money off tourists. Except that it was like 2 degrees out yesterday. Check out this low-quality movie clip (536k, .mov).
Sounds like Being John Malkovich!
If it’s 2 degrees out, how come no one is wearing a hat, gloves, or a scarf? Are Chicagoans that tough?
BTW, did the cat puppets wish everyone a “Happy Holiday,” or “Season’s Greetings,” or even “Joyous Solstice?”
By the way things in Chicago have been going over the past couple years, I would think those little cat puppets would get a citation from Daley himself for uttering the word “Christmas.”
Peace out.
They are that tough…i was there a few winters ago and they were talking about how lucky we were that it was a warm winter. I was wearing 2 jackets, and people were walking around like it was in the 60s
it was really windy. i was wearing a wool jacket (mid-thigh length), a scarf, and gloves. I’d forgotten my hat at the office. I was freezing.
Hey there… Thanks for taking note of the puppet bike… This link came up when I did a google search… very cool listing.
I actually built the Puppet Theatre for my friends to have some work when times are tough, but it’s also a very fun and as it turns out therapeutic was to pass some time with some friends.
I wish you would have seen the girl behind you doing the show… She’s extraordinarily talented with her moves…
Some are better than others, but I recognize the puppeteer currently in the box. Not the best with his hands, but he has a huge heart and loves the puppets. Because of his own problems it’s probably the only job he’ll ever be able to perform on a regular basis.
And as far as us being tough? Yeah.. we can take it pretty well.. The temps have been in the 90′s and VERY humid… In the box? well.. technology is getting better.
Easy work?? NO way.. It burn’s you out fast.. A typical day is covered by 3-5 people taking turns, and the slow times are SLOW..
I’m constantly working on the puppet bike and doing more detailed paintings… It’s good for the mind.
We’re hosting “A night with the puppets” For the die hard puppet fans… (there are a few) at a gallery later this month.. Stop over.

This puppet theater on wheels is so freakin’ cute. And I hate cute things, but this almost brought a tear to my eye, how cute it was. God… It’s so cute I crying. God… I love this!
Saw the puppetbike today on this wonderful day in Springtime Chicago. Awesome show at Randolph and Michigan. So is it a guy or a girl puppeteer tonight? If a guy, could be the one.
