I used to walk 15 minutes to the closest T stop from my first place in Cambridge (MA) and wait outside for the train to come. Nowadays I'm blessed that my walk is only about 7 minutes and the train platform is about a half mile underground. I loves me some Porter Sq! The El is a good method, but those platforms are murder this time of year. As someone who lives by the Damen stop but makes her husband drive her to the subway at Division, I can attest that it's much better to be in the subway!
