Call in a little late for work? Check! Stand on line for 40 minutes? Check! Stand in the rain on that line for 10 of the minutes? Check!

Today was the opening of Fannie May on Michigan and Wacker. The first 500 people got a free pound of Pixies (valued at $18.95 on their website). On the corner of Wacker and Michigan employees were handing out free squares of chocolates to passers by. The box of truffles was given to people at the front of the line. The individual truffles were being handed out inside the store.

Everyone in these photos wearing a red shirt is an official employee of Fannie May. The guy selling StreetWise was an unofficial employee for the day. He walked up and down policing the line to make sure no one butt in. When the store officially opened at 10 he walked down the line telling everyone “Fannie May is officially open” and, of course, “Don’t forget to buy Street Wise on your way out!”

Oh yeh, I also got more free White Hen coffee this morning too.

I’d stand IN LINE too! I love chocolates! You should watch the news! I see a cameraman! SCORE ~

Wow, that typography for “Pixies” is similar to what I’ve seen used for the band, the (or is it “The”) Pixies.

BTW, I suggest some good ol’ Pixies songs for your iPod, like Here Comes Your Man or Gigantic.

I think you did make the news. I think I saw you in one of the line shots - that is if you were wearing a red coat??

yep! I think I might have been on 2 stations. one cameraman just ran down the line. the other one went down the line then kind of swooped out and stayed on me and i just gave this redic fake smile. im sure it looked tortured.

    What Would Willy Wonka Do?

Perhaps they should have thought twice before handing out all of that free candy. Our good friends at the Chicago Tribune tell us that Fannie May Candies, the company that after declaring bankruptcy earlier this year and shutting down its operations fo…
