The trees on Michigan and around the downtown/loop area have little white lights on them for the upcoming holidays.

Several people were gathered watching the painter in the window. Most people moved on and I stayed and took a few photographs. The man in the orange shirt in the background saw me and said something to the painter who turned around and waved to me with his paintbrush. Caught off guard, I gave an embarrassed wave and hurried along.

At Millennium Park the Ice Rink is ready but not open yet. Cloud Gate is hard to photograph in the dark. I think I need to bring my tripod.

Nice pics. Noticed most of your Chicago city pictures are north of Museum Campus. When you have an opportunity, try going south. Hyde Park, Burnham Park and the south lakeshore have some interesting sites that don’t get photographed very much. Osaka Gardens, Wooded Island, and some nice reconstruction of LSD including new underpasses at 57th, 59th, 63rd and Marquette.

Maybe the South Side doesn’t get photographed as much because it’s in the ghetto. The 30 seconds or so it takes to frame and take a picture could cost one’s life in da hood.

Richard Daley grew up in the South Side. But now he lives in the North Side. What has Daley done to improve life in the South Side?

Chicago needs a Giulliani to clean up Chicago. Could be the best American city if a Mayor there was tough on gangs and crime and didn’t have his hand in the unions and mob’s pockets.

Other than that, great pictures, Rachelle.

If I come across one more uninformed intellectually bankrupt remark about the southside such as the one above I am going to beat the person who made it mercilessly. The southside is not “in the ghetto”, there are good and bad neighborhoods alike on the southside, you dolt. I find you transplants be it from the suburbs or other parts of the country to be grossly bigoted and your ignorance of the city is taxing my tolerance.

it never ceases to amaze me how narrow of a view people have.

Rachelle - sorry for all the nasty messages on you site. I never thought my suggestion would stir up so much. Your pictures are great and thank you for sharing them.

Cloud gate looks like a sci-fi movie spatial anomoly. Awesome pictures … I am envious.

    Awesome pictures.

Keep up the good work and give up some more of those abstract pictures of structures.

Great photos of the city at night! I truly miss Chicago during the winter (I know…sounds crazy). It’s so beautiful with the lights and such.
