Ornate Window, West Town, Chicago
Two more from my walk. These types of ornate windows are very common in Chicago and particularly in the Bucktown/Wicker Park/Ukranian Village/East Village/West Town neighborhoods. I’m not sure what they’re called or I’d try to look up their history. Most of them are on 3-flats.

I took a look in the book “A Field Guide to American Houses” and a projecting window that doesn’t reach the ground is known as an oriel, or cantilievered window.

I did some surfing and stumbled upon the following site. I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but it could be a starting point. Love the pictures by the way.
