Yesterday morning the thing I was most excited about was going to my old deli by work and getting a big fat NY bagel. I was going to test my boy, Andy, there to see if he remembered my order (Everything, toasted, light butter) but he wasn’t around. There are some new displays and some new people there but for the most part it’s still the same.
Before that I had gone to the Starbucks on Varick/Spring to get some coffee. Walking down Varick I expected to feel some weird Twilight Zone action since that’s the route I used to walk to work every day but it felt good. Comfortable. Like maybe I was just walking this every day just last week.
As a true test that I have not lost my New Yorkness, 2 people asked me directions (to Hudson St. and to the nearest subway) and I was able to confidently tell them where to go. And no… it wasn’t “to hell”.

As one who loves a good bagel, and who is moving to Chicago very soon, I have to ask: Can you get a good NY style bagel in Chicago? Or am I out of luck?

I heard that this place JB’s gets in a daily delivery from New York Bagel but I’ve never been there to eat them.

I understand that.. even though I’ve never lived in NYC.. I still feel like I’m “home” when I visit the city I grew up in. I’m better at giving directions around town than my friends who never moved. And I’ve been away for over 5 years!

Hello, we stumbled on your website when we were searching calvin klein ad photos on google for my friends marketing class. We were wondering, what kind of camera do you have that took all those great photos? Thank you!
