Walking Around North Center

My Not for Tourists book says that the neighborhood I was staying in this weekend is called North Center, although I’ve never heard of that neighborhood before. . . not that that means much.

North Center is a great neighborhood! I currently live in the area and LOVE it! It’s VERY safe and much more affordable then other areas of Chicago. The name North Center is fairly new to me…

I went to H.S. in the area and have always heard it referred to as either St. Bens, Lincoln Square (seeing that it’s very close), Ravenswood, or even Lakeview. …It’s very interesting that they started calling it North Center…

Hey “resident” for all we know North Center is a new name cooked up by realtors to pitch the ‘hood to yuppies fed up with higher rents elsewhere in Chi-town!

Rachelle got good pics as usual. That last one, does it remind you of anything? Anything you toured in your waning days in NYC? Think! ;-)

Nah…I’m thinking that it may actually be the “center” of the northside of Chicago….

    Nice idea though.

chris - does it remind you of brooklyn?

    Hi Rachelle:

The last pic made my think of your adventure on The High Line. Perhaps a stretch but the raised right of way in the pic above a semi-industrial looking street scene is much like what one sees at street level where the HL traverses say 30th down to 20th in NYC.

    Hi Rachelle

Assuming you work in the loop, have you walked home yet? I live in Bucktown and once a week walk the 4 mile walk home. It’s full of great things to photgraph/look at. :)

    Hey, Rox -

I haven’t walked home yet, I would like to though. I don’t really know the route.. and someone told me I had to walk through a bad area?

Nope, no bad areas. At least not on the route I take. If you walk down Washington to Clinton, take a right on Clinton, walk to Kinzie, take a left on Kinzie, walk to Milwaukee, right on Milwakee, and Milwaukee all the way down. That’s my route. Great pub called Emmet’s on your way as well. :)
And on a side note, love the site. I came upon by accident a few weeks ago and have been lurking ever since. Love the photos; makes me appreciate the city a little more.
