Chicago Avenue is the southern boundary of East Ukrainian Village. The man in the 5th photo asked me to take his picture. I’m not sure why. Chicago Avenue at Ashland Avenue is very Hispanic and old school. There are a lot of Elotes carts and most everything is in Spanish. With the coffee shop and the pharmacy you can see a little bit of the neighborhood’s Eastern European roots coming through. As you walk west towards Damen you start to see gentrification creeping in. At Chicago and Wolcott there are even brand new condos being built.

They show that this part of the East Village is mostly Hispanic with a sprinkling of Eastern European thrown in and just a tiny bit of American shops starting to make an appearance.
