If you haven’t already figured it out from Tien & Will’s comments, by teaming up with our friends at Gothamist, Jen Chung and Jake Dobkin, Margaret Lyons and I launched a new site called Chicagoist. The site is about Chicago and everything that happens it in - news and events, restaurants and bars, happenings and goings-on. Check it out! And we are interested in more contributors, so if you live in Chicagoland so if you love finding out what’s going on in Chicago and telling others about it, let me know!

Good luck with your new adventure. I though you might want to know that you’ve been boingboing’ed

Good luck guys, I have good feelings that your web expertise (webspertise?) will make Chigagoist a worthy sister ship to gothamist.

Sweet! Who’s going to be the Tien of Chicagoist and cover the sports beat (and Cubbies)?
Was “Chicagoist” the first and only name considered, or were there others?
Now I’m wondering what other websites-about-a-city Gothamist will spawn? San Diegoist? Appletonist?

matt, we did brainstorm a bunch of other names but domains werent available for any of the other good ones. so then we just decided to go for chicagoist.

Jake and I did consider a number of names, but we felt Chicagoist was the best fit. I know some people are all bugged out about it, but after our brainstorming session, we went back to Chicagoist.

Gothanist jump started my blog back in March.
I read it every day and since Rachelle moved to Chicago I’ve followed her as well (including the bumps & bruises of Hawaii). Particularly impressed with the great photo shoots.
Is there room for a geezer side? If so, how does one attach to this list?

Good luck and welcome to the “-ist” family!

Holy moly. Chicagoist is making the rounds fast! The article about Gehry’s new bridge is linked to on Archinect’s news column!
Impressive PR department!

A Big Big Thank You to Rachelle
If you couldn’t guess from the kind of random posts over the past 10 days, we’ve been away. “M” and I took a week off and went to France. Why France? Several reasons, but mostly because we’ve wanted to…

You New Yorkers shit and call it art, as if you’re the first ones to ever do it. Go back to New York. Please. Chicagoist is nothing but redundant patronizing crap. Not welcomed, not appreciated, and not as popular as those outside of Chicago have been led to believe.

jeez … looks like SOMEONE’s got quite the sandy vagina. relax “chicagoan” - the internet’s plenty big for everyone. cripes.

I love it when you get angry and defend me, Joel. It always makes me laugh just when I need it. I take “Chicagoan”’s comment with a grain of salt. The hundreds of emails and comments I have gotten regarding Chicagoist over the past days and weeks have been, for the most part, positive and supportive. And I’ve gotten many many inquiries from people who would like to contribute to the site. I don’t know who appointed “Chicagoan” spokesperson for Chicago, but from what I’ve seen Chicago’s opinion is much the opposite of “Chicagoan”’s.

good, cuz I’ll smack these people in the FACE!
I was just reading boingboing and, coincidentally enough, I think “Chicagoan” is on the cover of this month’s “Internet Tough Guy Magazine”

hmmm … my last comment(s) is/are looking quite ironic.
saying I’ll “smack people” and then calling someone ELSE out as an “internet tough guy”.
…
oy, I’m rambling. CARRY ON!

I just defended rachellb, chicagoist and gothamist all in one post on Gothamist even though I am a “bloghater”. I think your work Rachelle has really influenced me about what it means to blog and how people can in fact do it right. Good luck with your blog endeavors and glad to peer into the blogsphere and glad you and others are making the world from the blogsphere’s point of view more interesting than it was before.
And Chicago has issues in general trying to tie it all together cuz it’s a very vast and diverse city with it’s own issues. Chicagoans come in vast shapes and sizes and views but brave and exciting to have a view of the Chicago world. Your local perspective might give more people more of a non-suburban view that is much needed of the chicago world. As an ex-chicagoan I have to say rock on.
: )

Good luck with your new adventure, the Chicagoist. Chicagoan doesn’t have to read it if he doesn’t want to - it’s America, land of the free, after all!! (His angst and anger may come from his chicagoan jealousy of NYC)…
anyway I came across this for you: http://www.chicagosnapshot.com/cs/index.html and thought you might be interested. I confess to missing your NY posts.
