One thing that’s been irritating me about Chicago is that most of the restaurants charge a delivery fee. Like last night I ordered something for $8.95 and the total came to $14.95 and then I always feel like I should tip the driver because I don’t know if they get a cut of the delivery fee so all together it was like $18. $18 for a $8.95 order. I think any fee is redic, let alone a $4 delivery fee. Who else is with me?
I don’t think I’m going to be ordering delivery here even HALF as much as I used to in New York. At least not by myself. If you have a few people to go in on an order the fee doesn’t seem that bad, but $4 on an $8.95 order is ludicrous.

around here, most places only charge a fee for delivery if the order is less than $10. maybe that’s what happened to you?

What restaurant charged you $4? (I don’t think that) I’ve never seen a delivery charge that high. $1-2 is what I consider normal…

it was pompei and the food is really good there, but not worth $4 delivery if you’re only ordering for one person. i had remorse right after i ordered but it was kind of an ordeal and after it i didnt want to be like “oh.. cancel that!” I had called the wrong location, been put on hold, given my phone #, first name, last name, and address then was told to call another location. So i did. I was put on hold, gave all the same info, and gave my order, asked about some specials.. they say they have a $10 minimum and i was only ordering $8.95 but the guy on the phone (he had a cute voice) said that that was ok if I didn’t meet the minimum.. then he slapped me with the $14.95 at the end. eek! by then i was just like “uh. ok.” plus i was really hungry.

that blows yo. i usually just say, “why not tack on more food,” but i’m also the person that says, “why not order a large? it’s only $2 more.”

as it was i already had ordered enough food for 3 meals. so, i guess if you divide it by 3, $18 isn’t that bad.

wow - that’s robbery! are there places nearby that you can walk to? do they drop the fee if you meet a higher minimum?
maybe it’s time to bust out the mac and cheese boxes!

Ah, the cost of smalltown living…

i dont really think i would classify living in chicago as “smalltown living”. i’ve lived in really small towns.. i’ve lived places where we couldn’t even get a pizza delivered. places where no one would deliver anything. and chicago isn’t one of those places.

No, but it ’s most certain one of those places where you gotta pay 4$ for a delivery….

duh - i didn’t read your comment carefully enough. well - in NY, 8.95 only gets you enough for ONE entree, and nothin else. so $18 for enough for 3 meals doesn’t sound THAT bad.

I’ve lived in really small towns too but Chicago is small compared to New York. I’ll bet they don’t even have bars there where the only rules are no swearin’ and no hittin’ on women.
