Midwestern-Style Chili with elbow noodles.
It wasn’t until I moved away from the midwest that I realized that the rest of the world eats their chili without noodles in it. At first I thought the rest of the world was crazy. No noodles? I’ve come to realize that what I grew up eating as chili is actually chili mac. I still love it, but have also grown to love the rest of the world’s chili. I love chili almost any way you make it, unless it’s really really hot.
Sunday was my first time in many years making midwestern-style chili. I spent the day running errands and doing things around the house. It was cold outside and rained part of the day .. perfect for chili. And I don’t care if Limey calls me to rub it in my face, there’s no way I believe that it could have been raining in my neighborhood and bright and sunny at Wrigley Field. I turned his extra ticket down because I didn’t want to sit out in the cold when I’m not even really a Cubs fan.. I will wait until the weather is nice so I can at least sit in the sun and enjoy my beer properly.

mmm. that looks really good. must get something to eat now!
and that’s poppycock! you have to go to a cubs game whenever you can. it’s hard to get tix at wrigley.

no, i would pick those out. really, a beanless chili would be great! what’s not to love?

i dont know if i could get more than one.. possibly. I’d have to check. It seems more like someone would have a random one here or there.. Like Saturday we were out and Limey had an extra one for Sunday so he offerred it to me but I turned it down. He easily got someone else. You just missed the Cubs/Mets series.

sheesh, get my hopes up and everything? i think the only hope i have of getting a ticket is to go to a weekday game. shannan was at saturday afternoon’s game.
and i dont know that i want to see the mets on the road. i get enough of their sorry asses at home.

i assumed when you said “both teams” you meant the cubs & the mets.. ? So, do you mean you want to see the Yankees on the road? I know you loooooove them.

nono, by both teams, i mean the cubs and white sox. i either want to catch a weekend when both teams are in chicago, like this past weekend, or when one teams is there on thursday and the other is there on the weekend. this way, i can see a game in both ballparks.

I had the same confusion regarding noodles & chili while growing up. Mom used spaghetti noodles though. Nothing like a good slurp of a spaghetti noodle to splash chili all over the place!

Ugh, I would have to say that Chili-Mac is my second-least favorite food, right behind Sloppy Joes. Gross.
And good for you Rachelle. I wish more people would turn down Cubs tickets. That way we Chicagoans could have the team back from all the Big Ten transplants that become “huge Cubs fans” when they move to North Side. Then they go to the games, jack the ticket prices up and spend all freakin’ day on their cell phones. Wrigley Field is now like this really hard club to get into. And once everyone’s inside, they have to call EVERY SINGLE PERSON THEY KNOW to let them know where they’re at.
That - in short - is why I’m a Sox fan.

I haven’t lived at home for 7 years and I dont think i’ve ever made chili. ever since a certain incident when she was pregnant, amanda refuses to eat it. I cant even remember the last time ive had chili.
How can you not like sloppy joes?

i would give you the recipe but it’s something like
cook some hamburger with some onions and peppers and garlic in a big pot, add some tomatoes and sauce from a can, dump in some noodles and beans, add some spices.. let it cook until whenever you feel like.

I’m with Scott… my mom’s Wisconsin-style chili contains spaghetti noodles too. It was the longest time before I realized there was any other way. : )

we had speghetti noodles sometimes instead of elbow. i think it just depended on whatever was in the cupboard.
