Chicago Ranked as the 11th Most Unwired City in USIn a study by Intel released recently, Chicago was ranked the 11th most unwired city in the United States. The survey ranked cities by ease of wireless internet connectivity. What this means to me is that I can probably continue to leach off my neighbors and local businesses for a while longer instead of getting that wireless router that I planned on getting at home. Here is a list of 126 wireless hotspots in Chicago.

In the study Portland ranked #1. Los Angeles and New York suprisingly lagged behind, ranking #23 and #24, respectively.

makes sense to me. new york is just too large to be “unwired” and we have a whole bunch of people that would have no need to be wireless. i feel the cities in the pacific nw have more tech people and a higher average income too.

8 million people in new york. how many could possibly need to be wireless? my guess is not that many. in our world, sure there are a lot of people who would appreciate the wireless connections, but i think a lot of people in new york wouldn’t need the connections.

i think your point can be made in many, if not all, of the US’s largest cities. maybe san fran would be an exception.

600 thousand people in milwaukee. yadda, yadda yadda …i think a lot of people in milwaukee wouldn’t need the connections.

maybe that’s why they’re 47th on the list. I don’t personally know anyone in milwaukee who is wireless.

…right…a point that can be made in any large city…which is why it isn’t surprising that l.a. and nyc are 23 and 24.

I rank intel as one of the 11th eaisest corporations to pick your nose in your cubicle at… and in doing so I make more sense and site as my proof snickers bars and http://wigle.net/ thus trumping them without even bothering to read read said press release. The moral of the story is just because it comes up on your newsreader under the keyword “chicago” doesn’t mean it’s worth two poops.

I knew it! I was there in November, staying in the loop, and couldn’t find an internet connection outside Kinko’s, which closed at 6 PM and wasn’t open weekends. I’ve gotten so spoiled in NYC …

I think you guy’s aren’t getting the drift. Being the #1 UNWIRED city is GOOD. Deb, Chicago ranks HIGHER than New York. Stacy, Portland is tops. It was ranked the easiest city to connect wirelessly in.
