Neko Case along with Jim & Jennie & the Pinetops and Carolyn Mark, Schubas, Lakeview, Chicago
Last night Kristin and I went to see Neko Case at Shubas, one of the best clubs in Chicago for seeing live music. Opening for Neko were Carolyn Mark and a band called Jim & Jennie & The Pinetops. Carolyn Mark was folksy, Jim & Jennie & The Pinetops were a bluegrass band and Neko case is kind of folksy/bluesy/country. This isn’t the sort of music that I usually listen to but the performers were all very talented and having a great time so it made it really fun for the audience. I had a good time. By the end of the show every performer from the whole night was on stage playing with Neko Case and the band she was playing with, The Sadies.
Neko Case! I’m jealous. She is so wonderful. Definitely check out the torch songs of “Blacklisted”. Her singing on the New Pornographers cds is also great.
New Pornographers are awesome – “Mass Romantic” gets so much burn on the iPod…
I’ve been eating and drinking at Schubas many times, but I don’t think I ever listened to a band there before. Southport Lanes nearby is fun too.
