Beastie Boys, Tribeca, Manhattan, photo by Jess
So I was watching the new Beastie Boys video for Ch-Check It Out (it’s HOT!, View it here) and I IMed Eric to tell him that it was filmed in the neighborhood of our New York office, where he works, and that part of it was at Sosa Borella, a restaurant where we used to order from frequently. Sosa Borella is also where The Water Incident happened. He IMs me back “I just saw the Beastie Boys right in front of the building. They were shooting between the median. I just came back up here to get a digital camera.” Holy crap! Jess sent me this photo she took of them on a sidestreet near where 508 used to be. I’m so jealous. I’ve listened to Ch-Check It Out about 100 times in the past few days. I &hearts the Beastie Boys.

Damen Blue Line Stop, Wicker Park, Chicago
Lately when it’s nice outside and I’m not too tired from work I get off at the Damen blue line stop instead of the Division stop, which is closer to my house. Damen isn’t that much farther away and allows me to take a nice walk through the neighborhood before going home. The stop I get on in the Loop is very strip mall-ish and the Division stop is underground, kind of New Yorkish. Both are underground. The Damen stop is above ground, cute and unique.
Update: Kevin @ Forgotten NY sent me a link to a ton of information and photographs of the Damen station. Take a look. It’s interesting – the station dates back to 1895.

Oceans 12 Filming, Wicker Park, Chicago
This is more like it. Today is the day Oceans 12 is filming in my neighborhood. This morning they were setting up cameras and unloading trucks.

One thing that’s been irritating me about Chicago is that most of the restaurants charge a delivery fee. Like last night I ordered something for $8.95 and the total came to $14.95 and then I always feel like I should tip the driver because I don’t know if they get a cut of the delivery fee so all together it was like $18. $18 for a $8.95 order. I think any fee is redic, let alone a $4 delivery fee. Who else is with me?
I don’t think I’m going to be ordering delivery here even HALF as much as I used to in New York. At least not by myself. If you have a few people to go in on an order the fee doesn’t seem that bad, but $4 on an $8.95 order is ludicrous.

Mother’s Day Deal of the Century, Wicker Park, Chicago
On my walk to the subway this morning I saw that the Oceans 12 filming hadn’t started yet. All that was going on was the unloading of some trucks. Hopefully something more exciting will be going on when I get home. Also, had to chuckle as I passed by this sign across the street from the filming. Maybe Matt Damon will stop into this residential address and find out what the deal of the century is and buy his mom a gift.
Update: I realized that when I took these photos it was the 28th, not the 29th.
