Pop Burger – The Lounge, Meatpacking District, Manhattan
Pop Burger is a strange spot. It has a split personality. In the front it’s a fast food burger joint and in the back it’s a trendy lounge playing loud music and serving pricey martinis. Tonight I went in celebration of Matthew’s birthday. It’s strange going out with people these days knowing that it could be the last time you see them for a very long time. I don’t see Matthew & Alessandro & Eddie & their crew nearly as much as I should so I was glad to have the chance to see them at least one more time before I leave.
Also, Happy Birthday to my dad yesterday!
i was going to say that it looked a little fancy to be serving burgers, but i guess you covered that.
i also love how you can order the same food in the back as you can in the front but it just costs like 3 times more.
yeh, i know! that’s why we left the bar and went to the front to get food. the signature is their mini burgers but i had the shrimp sandwich. also, the drinks in the bar were really good. i had one that was called mint chip and had creme de menth, godiva chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka and creme and also one called a white chocolate martini that had godiva white chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka and creme. yum. but at $10/drink they better be good!
I’ll have to stop into PopBurger next time I go “shooting” in the Meat Packing District:
http://www.arthure212.bravepages.com/NightOutWebP/index.html
That page’s got some photos from the last shoot. Pam’s just won an award for one of her Meat Packer photos – she “shoots” the actual nighttime meat packers and .. well, transvestites who hang out there sometimes.
I’ve only stopped in the front part a couple of times. The fries are nasty.
i thought the fries were good. so were the onion rings.
nice photos, arthur.. do you have a link to pams too?
I had a gathering there of about 25 people. They would not let my friends pay as they go, so I opened a tab. Long story short, they snuck in a 4th bottle of vodka to my party and charged me for it. I did not authorize it or order it. I called everybody and neither did my friends. Of, course we drank it, as it was late in the night, and what is going to happen to a bottle of open vodka in a party situation? They know. That’s why they did it, I assume. Boost sales? Increrase tip? I have no idea.
I called the next day to have it removed and credited to my card. In a sober state of mind. They were nasty, trying to make it look like I was trying to get away with something. “You signed the credit card, honey,” was what I got, in the most condescending, machismo manner.
In my 12 years in NYC I NEVER experienced such sneaky behaviour from an establishment. Horrible service and unethical practices.
Shame, shame, Pop Burger. What goes around comes around.
