Native American Farms Hot Pepper Sauce
Native American Farms Hot Pepper Sauce, Amy Ruth’s, Harlem

Last night I met up with Jeannette, Yvan, Tien, Masako, Eleanor, Jessica and Joe for a yummy dinner at Amy Ruth’s in Harlem. Immediately, we noticed some new hot sauce on the tables and that they are selling it behind the register. Jeannette was the only one daring enough to try it. Her reaction was kind of “eh..”

Amy Ruth’s doesn’t sell alcohol. Joe suggested that maybe it is because there is both a church and a mosque across the street. We called ahead and Papa, our favorite waiter, said that it would be ok to bring beer in. After we were seated at our table we started passing beer out to whoever wanted it. The host discreetly came over to us and said that it was ok to have brought beer in but that he would have to take it into the back and pour it into glasses for us. Turns up he just poured it all into a big pitcher and gave us a bunch of glasses. Oh, and we couldn’t find chilled beer at the supermarket so we were drinking a pitcher of warm Negra Modelo.

Even if the beer had much to be desired, the food was awesome, as always. I had the fried chicken drizzled with honey, a side of macaroni and cheese, and a side of fried okra. After dinner, I splurged and bought myself some of Amy Ruth’s honey for home. It’s made in an apiary on the roof of the building.

Also, Jeannette & Yvan surprised us with gifts from their recent trip to Thailand. My gift was a beautiful pillow and tons of candy!!!! When I unwrapped the box of candy I couldn’t help but yell “CANDY!!!” I was so excited. And the pillow goes great with the other throw pillows I got at Pearl River Market. Thanks guys!

    Another Trip to Amy Ruth’s

Amy Ruth’s cornbread. Councilman Bill Perkins – Honey dipped fried chicken with candied yams and fries. The aftermath. Last night, I met up with Eleanor, Jeannette, Jess, Joe, Masako, Rachelle and Yvan, for my second trip to Amy Ruth’s….

    sounds delish! really southern.

Life cycle of the Rocklets candy:

    • Made in Argentina
    • Imported to either Malaysia or Philipines
    • Mysteriously travels to Thailand
    • Purchased by Jeannette
    • Flown to the USA
    • Final destination: Rachelle, Jessica, Kristin & Danielle’s bellies

Note: Arco makes Rocklets and on their website it specifically says these are not available in Germany, the US or Puerto Rico.

Note Also: Rocklets are pretty much like M&Ms except more flat like a Spree shape and the chocolate tastes a bit different. Kind of like the generic M&Ms they sell.

Dinner was great! Thanks for coming up to my part of the world.

  • jeannette

wow – i wonder why rocklets aren’t avail in the US? i should have gotten you some kinder surprise eggs, too. lots of illegal candy!!

glad you liked the gifts. :) and thanks for organizing the outing! i think i could have honey-dipped fried chicken every night of the week!

  • dahl

  • rachelleb

cool. and you can say you’ve been there.

  • rachelleb

the candy i had tonight was called milo and is made by nestle but says that it was made in jakarta. it says on the package that it is a “chocolate flavoured confectionery”. it tastes like a chocolate malt.

  • Jessica

thanks guys for the great night. i thank you. although my stomach that night was not thanking me. too much fried chicken and honey. but it was well worth it!

And I love my pillow too, jeannette and yvan, thanks so much! it goes great with my bed and it’s so comforty!

  • Chris

Amy Ruth’s – best southern fried chicken/honey everrrr! By the way, is it just me or is that flat panel tv they have on the wall there kinda seem a little “out of place”?!

  • KRZYSIEK

i guess i`m not the only one who LOVES candies :)
p.s. is that kider bueno on the pic?
    ferrero rulez!!

  • rachelleb

chris, i never noticed a tv. which wall is it on?

krzysiek, yes, it’s kinder bueno. i havent tried it yet though.

  • KRZYSIEK

it`s worth eating :) all ferrero stuff is phat, especially kinder coutry, bueno and rafaello.

  • KRZYSIEK

one more Q..isn`t it available in the states?
    if not, that`s strange.
    someone once said:
if there is something you can`t find in NY, it means such a thing does not exist

  • tien

the tv was on the wall behind you the other day. it’s not that big, maybe 17″. masako and i actually talked about it. bloomberg news was on while we were there. i thought that it was one of those “free” tvs that they give establishments that have ads and stuff on them. you see them in elevators sometimes now.

  • Judy

really great website, makes me want to try
some of that honey chicken. Keep up the good
    work.

  • rachelleb

i liked kinder bueno the best so far. who could not like crisp wafer filled with milk & hazelnut cream and covered with milk chocolate.

i also had safari by gandour, it was alright. on the package it is described as “delicious chcolate flavour coating with wafer, caramel and cereal centre”. sounds delish.. maybe it was past its expiration or something. gandour’s website just says it’s under construction.

we also had one candy bar that was a vanilla wafer with like 5 bumps that were filled with a creamy frosting. it was called tourist, but i didnt save the packaging or make note of the manufacturer so it’s difficult to find online since tourist is such a popular word. it was interesting. yummy but not my favorite.

    Hey, that’s my Aunt Judy!

  • joe s

Hey, I just noticed that’s my Aunt Judy! Hi Aunt Judy!

  • JoAnne

Rocklets are now available in the US, in fact they are the “Official Candy Of The NASDAQ-100 Open Tennis Tournament.”

    http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/news/newsbyid.asp?id=15189
    says:

“It was also announced that during this event Arcor will launch Rocklets, a chocolate-coated and a peanut and chocolate-coated lentil-sized candy. Rocklets, one of the Arcor Group’s major brands, will be launched in the US with a special formula developed for the American market. These lentil-sized candies will be offered to all the trade channels in the two flavors in different types of packaging.”

The reason they taste different from M&M’s is that M&M’s have ground-up peanut in them. Yes, even the plain M&M’s. Rocklets taste much more like Hershey-Ets, which were discontinued in February of this year.

  • rachelle

thanks for the info , joanne.. i’ll have to keep an eye out for rocklets at the supermarket now

  • james mcclure
