Map on West 10th Street, West Village, Manhattan
About a month ago I saw this map on Franklin Street in Tribeca while out for a much-needed stroll on my lunch break. I quickly became obsessed, taking about 20 photos of it, and then promptly forgot about it. Until this weekend when I saw another one in The Village. Does anyone know where I can find more? They’re hand-painted maps with all of the streets marked. The one on Franklin Street includes a compass at the top. Both have a “You Are Here” marker and point out local restaurants, bars, and shops.
Also this weekend, I found another Space Invaders mosaic, this time in Chelsea. Previously I’d seen them in Brooklyn.

Space Invaders! What a great idea. I want to know who does the alien graffiti all around town–I think it’s great.

callalillie, by aliens do you mean these creatures? They are adorable. For a while I thought they may have been ghosts but now I recall seeing spaceships with some of them.

there is a huge wall map of DUMBO in, conveniently, DUMBO. just don’t spend too much time trying to take the picture. the local richies have banned any more filming or photoshoots in their neighborhood.

Check out http://www.space-invaders.com/newyork.html. The Space Invader mosaics are the work of an anonymous French artist, who has “invaded” 25 different cities around the world (from http://www.fluxfactory.org“>http://www.fluxfactory.org/“>http://www.fluxfactory.org see the Air link). You can buy maps of the invasion from Flux Factory.
