I got this recipe from a blogger’s site so I thought it only appropriate that I blog the making of it.

| Everything starts off badly when I spill elbow noodles all over the kitchen. | Finally managed to get some of the noodles into a measuring cup. |

| Grating the onion made me bawl like a baby. | Starting to make the sauce. I’m not very graceful in the kitchen. . . but my cooking usually turns out in the end. |

| The point at which I realized I didn’t have enough cheese. The noodles are cooked and the base of the sauce is made. |
At the store buying more cheese. I couldn’t find a deli that had any so I ended up walking all the way to the supermarket – about 6 blocks each way. |

| Butter & spices, starting over making the base of the sauce. | My pot was too small so I had to transfer everything to a bigger one. Then I could add the milk. |

| And cheese. | The finished cheese sauce. |

| Buttering the casserole dish. | At this point I realized my casserole dish isn’t big enough and all of the cheese sauce won’t fit. Hoping that it will still turn out ok. |

| Making the breadcrumb topping. | Pre-cooking. |

| Crap. I forgot to preheat the oven. Now I have to wait for it to heat up. |
The fire alarm kept going off but I’m not sure why. The macaroni & cheese seems to have turned out. |

- Callalillie’s Recipe
- The post that started it all

blech. i still maintain that i don’t like mac and cheese. if you cook for me though, i would be willing to reconsider.
that onion photo is too funny. looks like you came out on the wrong side of a cat fight.
i can’t believe you cry that hard grating onions. i’m lucky if my eyes even water. you must be super sensitive.
it looks like it turned out good in the end. you always have been able to make some good dishes. especially that pound cake dessert. yum
it was a strong onion!!!! plus.. did you ever try to grate an onion!?! it’s way worse than just cutting one up.
the 4th of july pound cake dessert?
best. blog. ever.
for real, that onion pic is BRUTAL!
omg, rachelle – that is the cutest onion picture i’ve ever seen!!!
i’m gonna have to try callalilie’s recipe!
aaawwweee. this whole story was so sweet ! and funny ! step-by-step with you in the kitchen ! and the Onion pic ! ha ! The best ! I think all onions are extra strong this time of year !
Huummmm, this mac make me hungry it looks real good!! Cool Pictures!!
no, i haven’t ever grated an onion. i’ll have to try it sometime.
yeah, the 4th of july pound cake. i love that stuff!
by the way … this weblog entry is of Tonyang proportions. I was starting to miss his culinary exploits while he’s on vacation till I saw this. I got my fill for the week.
Great documentation! I feel so honored. Where’s my doggie bag?
yeh, how long is tony in costa rica for? he takes great photos of his food & it’s preperation. glad i could fill the gap in his absence!
hey, callalillie/corie – i have a tiny bit left. .but really im practicing up for the big mac n cheese bake-off contest!! heh
i’ve got to organize that contest….i think we should have blogger blind taste tests.
i guess i can volunteer to be the taste tester, since i am a blank slate for mac and cheese…
someone who doesn’t like mac n cheese does not make a good mac n cheese taste tester!
maybe, but i can also be impartial and not have a bias towards any recipe.

Corie’s Macaroni & Cheese
Yesterday I made Corie’s Macaroni & Cheese recipe again. Luckily this time it wasn’t as dramatic as the last.. remember the crying while grating the onion photo? This recipe, unlike the one for Jason Kottke’s tator tot hotdish, is…
