I really really don’t want to do this but I don’t see an alternative. The Street Writing has been hugely popular and I am so grateful to everyone who visits the project and links to it and emails me in support.. but.. my host has been sending me notices that depending on my bandwith used by the end of this billing cycle I’m going to end up paying between $100 and $800+ in overage fees. The day that the page was featured on Gawker it got over 1,200 hits and since then a ton of sites have linked to it. Yesterday the Street Writing page, not counting hits to any other page on my site, got 2,500 hits. And it was a Saturday, not even a week day. I love the attention, but I can’t pay $800 for it. So I’m going to take the page down til the end of the cycle.. and then put it back up and see what happens. Sorry. Believe me, I really *do not* want to do this but I don’t know what to do. If you have any suggestions let me know..

Rachelle!
Use Google Ads (http://www.google.com/adsense) to generate cash. Gawker.com does really well with those ads.
Cheers, you have a cool blog!

i applied for google ads a while ago and they turned me down. . they dont like to put them on personal blogs.

damn! that’s crazy. sucks that you have to take it down though. i think rachelleb.com might need a new host with all the visits the site is getting.

i could upgrade with my current host, of course.. but that would mean more money. i only pay $8something right now .. it’s the $9.95 plan but I get a discount every month for referring people to them. The next step up is $19.95/month and only gives you 10 gig more of bandwidth.. which is how much i’m estimated at going over by today. and they charge $10/gig overage.. that’s $100+ they’re estimating at the end of the month. .. on an account i usually pay $8/month for.

Rachelle,
I think your site is fantastic. It’s too bad about the street writing project. Hopefully a rich benefactor is reading this as well and will offer to foot the bill.

i am trying to work no alternate solutions right now.. so for everyone who is getting a broken link.. hang in there!

Just a thought – how about putting up Street Writing on a free site host for a while?

Have you followed up on the book idea? Maybe you could get a publisher to be your sugar daddy. Then they could host the street writing photos.

Rachelle,
Love your site! I visit everyday. I would be willing to host your site. Please contact me via email to work out the details. Thanks.
rachelleb // Nov 12, 2003 at 7:33 am
thanks everyone. peter, i really appreciate it. I think i have almost reached a solution with another friend (named peter!) who is going to host the project. hopefully we can work out the details today. my current host is slow to respond to my support questions so that’s what’s holding up the process. hold tight a little longer!

And I could never marry a girl who goes for name brand recognition status over functionality & practicality! You Apple status lover!
