No Pork on My Fork, Harlem

No Pork on My Fork may seem, at first thought, to be a Kosher restaurant, but it’s actually a Muslim one.

Not any more, at least. A century ago this area of Harlem was largely Jewish. If you look closely at many of the large churches in the neighborhood you’ll see them decorated with Stars of David –they were originally synagogues. Today the neighborhood is mainly Christian and Muslim. Did you notice the mosque across the street from Amy Ruth’s? It is the replacement for Malcolm X’s mosque that was firebombed when he was assassinated uptown.
