Firey Sunsets

Oak Creek Sunset
Sunset, Oak Creek, WI (photo by Amanda Bowden)

My brother’s wife, Amanda, recently took this gorgeous photo of the sunset where they live in Oak Creek, a suburb of Milwaukee. It reminds me of a photo I took while camping in Arizona on the Colorado River in September 2000. I don’t know what causes these “firey” sunsets, but they sure are beautiful.

while doing the “26 things” project in july, i realized how i never see the sunset in nyc. i saw it once, when i was hanging out on the west side between dinner and a movie. maybe it’s because for the 6 years i’ve lived in nyc, i’ve always lived on the east side? :)

While I could get away with taking credit for this beautiful photo (Amanda never visits this site), I must admit that my wife took it.

OH, i thought you took it.. I updated the post to show Amanda took it, not you. poser!

This just in. Trade you desert pics/wallpaper (more uploads tomorrow) for the fiery WI sunset?

  • 9 Sam // Oct 6, 2003 at 7:26 am

That is an awesome picture. Sort of reminds me of the “purplish” sunsets that I use to see when I was a kid growing up in LA (in the Valley actually). But in LA the sky would turn that color because of the smog :(.

i love to see other people’s desktops. i think you can tell a lot about a person that way. maybe i’m just crazy.

  • 19 rachelle // Oct 6, 2003 at 5:17 pm

i think you’re right. so let’s see it!!!!!!!

  • 20 petrol // Oct 6, 2003 at 5:32 pm

Few years ago, I heard/read about an app that switched your wallpaper with vidcaps of other people’s desktops. Can’t remember if it was ever released or was just vaporware. Rather nifty though.
Tien, you’re not crazy. Wouldn’t it be great to see what everybody’s desktop looks like while featuring this Oak Creek wallpaper? (:

  • 21 tien // Oct 6, 2003 at 6:55 pm

here is my home…recently upgraded so not messy yet. you can see my mess at work tomorrow.

  • 22 jeannette // Oct 6, 2003 at 7:11 pm

i’m glad i didnt’ have any porn windows open, then!

tien - you’re totally right. you CAN tell a lot about a person by the way their desktop is set up. i have a million windows open, meaning that i “multitask” (which really means that i have a limited attention span and just skip between 10 tasks).

thanks for the tips, petrol! will definitely check them out…

  • 26 petrol // Oct 6, 2003 at 11:11 pm

Tien, yours has a weather indicator built-in? That’s spiffycool. Something tells me my next machine’s going to be a Mac. The Powermac G5 in fact. Oooh, have you seen this baby live? POWERFUL. It’s the most beautiful ever!

  • 27 tien // Oct 7, 2003 at 12:22 am

no, i wish it was built in. just a program called weather pop. it’s nice, except it uses weather.com info, which is the worst source for weather ever.

  • 28 tien // Oct 7, 2003 at 9:24 am

and here is my work desktop.

  • 29 rachelle // Oct 7, 2003 at 10:01 am
