2 Years

Times Square
Times Square, Manhattan

As of today I’ve been living in Manhattan for 2 years. Some days I get wrapped up in the excitement of the city and it feels like I just moved here. Some days when everything goes right I feel like I’ve conquered it and I could live here forever. Other days the pace and the attitude gets me down and I want to flee. Everyone here has this love/hate relationship with New York. Here are some posts from the days when I first moved here:

- On my first celebrity siting (Kurt Loder) the first night I moved here.
- On New York City kicking my ass.
- On New York City’s idea of Mexican food.

I used to work in that city and I understand what you mean about the love/hate relationship people have with it. I especially enjoyed your post about the day it was raining and your umbrella was inverting. I had that issue several times while in my suit, getting all drenched and shrunken. Very much not cool. I related to everything but the cramps, since, well… males don’t understand those types of cramps. Anyway, I think you can love that city from afar, but I’ll tell you one thing; you’ll never get as many cool photo opportunities anywhere else in the world as in The Big Apple (as your site here shows pretty clearly as well). New Jersey is a nice place to live too (if you’re lookin’) ;) (plus it’s not too far from NYC via the train in certian areas. Maybe take a look at places in Montclair, Hackensack[-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack <footnote Billy Joel>], or even Jersey City -where the path train is oh so lovely). I thin Jersey gets a bad rap, but that just cause C&C Music Factory came from here I think… :)… ok I’m done ramblin’. Gotta go eat some taylor hame and pretend I can make a left turn…

Rachelle - I’m so glad you decided to take that big step and move to the big apple! New York is a better place for you being in it.

I hope you can keep the excitement for NY inside of you. I have, and I hope I always will.

hey, you’ve lived in Manhattan one day less than me! Found any good Mexican food yet? I’m partial to the taco truck at 96th and Broadway.

Heh! I moved to NYC a very long time ago from San Diego. So did a woman named Helen Bowden, whom I later married. (Honest!) My first Mexican meal in Manhattan involved gouda cheese. It was not pretty.

I have gotten used to the food here. I like it, after a fashion. The sushi is fabulous. The delis are great. Still, I miss amazingly fresh vegetables. And Alfonzo’s in La Jolla.

Jai - thanks for the info, but I don’t think I’ll be moving to NJ anytime soon :)
Jeannette - you help keep the excitement alive (don’t take that the wrong way!)

Although i’ve lived in the area for five years, two in the city, New York continues to charm and amaze me. I always feel like I’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg and there’s a whole lot more if I just dive in deeper.

    Rachelle:

Although only have known you through your wonderful photo (and regular) blog for 6 months, still on your two year anniverary of life in Gotham I’m moved to steal from ‘Old Blue Eyes’

“Now in New York the days grow short it is the Autumn of the year.

And Rachelle I think of your time here so far as I do about chuggin good beer.

From bodega or bar, the libations were never far, and of this we have no fears

It’s been a very good two years”
