So, I never thought I’d be saying this, but lately I’ve grown weary of Law & Order and all of it’s spin-offs. They ruined it by having it on every hour of every day. I’m actually getting sick of it and it’s starting to feel repetitive. Of course, none of this has to do with the fact that there was a period of time when I would turn on TNT and watch back to back episodes every night I was home. heh.
So, I think Dick Wolf was reading my mind when he created Crime & Punishment. Crime & Punishment is like a “real life” Law & Order. Ok.. so maybe he wasn’t reading my mind, he probably was jumping on the reality show bandwagon. In either case, Crime & Punishment is INTENSE. It’s a courtroom drama (you know I’ve always loved courtroom drama ever since I was 7 years old and used to watch Perry Mason reruns with my dad!) with real lawyers, real defendants, real victims, real judges, real juries and real verdicts. Oh, and for some reason they chose the San Diego County District Attorney’s office to base the show out of.

you know what got me hooked? la law. the show was on past my bedtime, but i would still watch. i remember watching upside down from the stairs in my old apartment while my parents watched. good times.

heh. that’s funny. I think Perry Mason really did start it all for me. It’s basically the same format as Law & Order.. murder is committed, murder is investigated, accused is on trial. Perry Mason used to be on after school. I think we watched the Andy Griffith Show and then Perry Mason.
CSI is another show that I watched a lot.. then it went crazy with spin-offs of basically the same show.. and now I’m really sick of it.

Law and Order can be summed up by this web page: http://www.bensinclair.com/lawandorder.php

I have seen Crime and Punishment and I like it. I have watched Law and Order quite a bit, but not as of late…didn’t realize it had gotten out of hand.

yeh. .there are 2 CSI shows.. there are 3 Law & Order shows plus TNT runs it back to back all night long every night. If you need to catch up, Sue, just turn on TNT

This is the first year year that I have really gotten into L & O. I have seen two shows that were repeats for me….and it’s on, as you said, all the time. I love it!

Kelly, you’re only 12 years behind.. this is the 13th season this year. Of course, aren’t you the one who just started watching Seinfeld last year?
So, here’s a question I always ask fans of Law & Order. Who did you like best in the role of sidekick detective to Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach, aka. Nobody puts Baby in a corner!):
- Jesse L. Martin (current),
- Ben Bratt (the former Mr. Julia Roberts), or
- Chris Noth (Mr. Big)
10 tien // Jun 17, 2003 at 9:21 am
my vote would have to be for bratt…
but then what about ADAs?
Robinette, Claire Kincaid, Jamie Ross, Abbie Carmichael, or Serena Southerlyn (bleh). On hotness alone, my vote is for Abbie, but Claire was the best overall ADA.

I would agree with you on Angie Harmon’s character, Abbie, for best ADA. I hate it when they get a really beautiful blonde girl to be the ADA and then they stick big chunky glasses on her to “make her look smart”. They do that with the ADA on Law & Order Special Victims Unit.. seen here.

Hey people, c’mon. None of your love for law shows came from the cooky antics of Boss Hogg and Sherrif Roscoe P. Coltrane on The Dukes of Hazzard? Can I get YeeeeeeeeeHawwwww!!!!
L&O has run its course. I mean just look at the cheesy opening credits. I think I’ve seen every one of the original, now I’m working on SVU and CI.
As for Crime and Punishment, it kind of comes off as Court TV with production values. I’d rather watch the fake stuff. Speaking of fake. CSI:Miami, I’m sitting here watching David Caruso interrogate the murderer after swabbing the crime scene, doing a little science, and spitting out some miracle evidence. So, why must he do the interrogation too?

i dont know rachelle, the ADA on SVU is pretty hot even with the glasses. there also might be something about the super smart (or plays one on tv) woman that is really beautiful and has a sexy voice (ie angie harmon and to an extent SVU ADA) that does it for me.

i used to watch l&o a long time ago. back in the jerry orbach, benjamin bratt, sam waterston, epatha merkerson, steven hill days. sam waterston was always my favorite.

kris - is everything in your world somehow tied to the dukes of hazzard? you should check out dooce today.. she wants to name her baby after a dukes of hazzard character. good point about csi. that’s one thing that always bugged me about that show. also, i’d like to see a real crime scene lab. i’m sure they don’t look nearly as “cool” as csi makes them out to be.. with the dramatic lighting and such.
perry mason came before law & order and i was thinking about how quincy is a predecessor to csi. my mom used to watch that show when i was little (i think)
richard - i don’t watch a whole lot of tv, but it’s probably easier to find time to squeeze it in when you’re not running around after a couple of kids. also, don’t think i didnt notice that in some of the photos you sent jess is in one hand and the remote is in the other!

i would think that the crime labs are more like the labs in law and order, no?
and half those people are still on law and order.

crime & punishment is great. although, just once i’d like to see the prosecution actually lose. this last week was a good episode. at first i thought the lawyer who was defending the pedophile was a complete scumbag. he was really going after his client’s accusers who were on the witness stand, even though it was obvious they were violated in the worst way. but then, everyone is entitled to a vigorous defense. by the end of the show i decided he wasn’t a complete scumbag, just a scumbag who was doing his job . . .

Okay… so I once worked on Law&Order. And when I went for my interview to get the job (having never seen it) I said, “I’d really love to work on LA LAW…” and everyone laughed and said, ‘We would too, but that films in LA.” I was mortified, but they still hired me. I worked during the Noth/Orbach/Waterson/Hennessy reign. Which went like this: Noth/Complete Ass. Orbach/fine to work with. Waterson/Nicest guy ever/surrogate dad type. Hennessy/inncouous enough.

Yup Rachelle, you’re right. I watched Quincy. and yes, CSI does remind me of that. I love L&O too. I’ve pretty much watched it from the start. Your dad watches it now too. Has it really been on that long? I watch all versions, when I sit long enough to watch TV these days.
Who’s your last blogger here, Kristen from the Parker Grey show?
20 rachelle // Jun 18, 2003 at 7:49 am
Jeff - I was thinking the same thing while watching this week’s episode of Crime & Punishment. It didn’t seem like the lawyer really wanted to rip into and discredit the victims, but he knew he had to do it and it was the only way he could ever win.. and that was his job - to win for his client. (He didn’t win. The defendant was convicted on 19 counts of child molestation.)
Kristen - I used to do that when I first started to watch Law & Order.. I always called it LA Law. Now that LA Law isn’t on anymore it’s not as confusing. What did you do when you worked on Law & Order? Did you see the New York Times article on how acting gigs on Law & Order put food on the table for much of New York’s acting community? It’s kind of disappointing to hear that Noth is an ass, but not really surprising. Comforting to know that Waterston really is as he seems. Thanks for the inside scoop.
Mom - Yes, Kristen is the author of The Parker Grey Show. I’m on page 121. More on that later… !

Hey ‘Chelle (if I may call you that) cant beat those old Perry Mason shows with his gruff PI pal, poor same old DA that always lost the trial, and the dramatic exonerating confessions by someone in the courtroom other than the accused that often ended the episode.

I worked as a production assistant on the show. My specific job was to run First Team - which basically meant that I had to babysit the actors. But after about five months I kept oversleeping so I was demoted and then my job was to ring the bell outside the door when they were shooting and re-charge the walkies at night! I was a very sucky PA. When the cast wanted me to run out and get them lunch I would say things like, ‘Are your legs broken?’
