Sorry! These are a few more photos I had from when I was walking dogs this weekend. The part of Williamsburg where the shelter is located is kind of desolate. There’s a lot of graffiti and run down warehouse type buildings. I like the photo of the trashed computer across the street from the abandoned lot. To be fair, there is a pretty park behind where I was standing to take the photo of the computer. I haven’t seen much more of Williamsburg than the area surrounding the shelter, so I’m unsure if the rest looks different. Williamsburg is a pretty desireable area in Brooklyn to live. Lots of artists and hipsters.
Yes, some areas of Williamsburg are very nice. I was going to move there in 1996 for my launchpad into Manhattan but eventually decided on Astoria, Queens which I’ve been very happy with. You should come out to visit Sarah & I one day, I think you’d enjoy seeing the park with a great view of Manhattan as well as hitting some of the pubs or dessert places around here. All you do is take the N/W train to the end (about 15-20 minutes from Lexington Ave in Manhattan) at Ditmars Blvd and you’re there. Sarah & I will be glad to show ya around along with whoever else wants to tag along… even our good ‘ole BBQ Brooklynite friend Chuck took a bikeride out here to have lunch. Later…
Could anyone tell me a little bit about when williamsburg starting becoming a desirable area again? if someone knows why, that would be great. email to plc224@nyu.edu, for an article for washington square news.

Hello,
I was raised in williamsburg, Brooklyn. 221 South 1st St between Roebling and Driggs. I went to school at PS17 and JHS 50. I loved playing stick ball and against the wall in the streets. I also loved sneaking in to Macarrean Park pool at night. I moved away after I joined the Army but my heart will always be in that neighborhood. Although I now live in North Carolina I always go home to refresh my love for those gritty blocks of concrete that made me the man i am today. I love you SOUTH SIDE! My email is boricua4u61@yahoo.com
I am thinking of moving to a place off the grant street stop in williamsburg and am wodering if it is/ nice. i would love some feed back or pics thanks

I grew up in Williamsburg in the late 1940s and actually lived there until 1962. I’m a writer and Williamsburg during those years figures in many of my non-fiction pieces. It’s always amazing to see the area as it now is rather than overrun with gangs.

these shots don’t make it look so desireable. but there’s bad spots in every city.
