Dear Michael:

The Black Arts Alliance invites you to participate in the Fifth Annual Cine Noir: A Festival of Black Film, March 2-5, 2006, at various venues in Wilmington, NC.

The four-day juried festival of independent motion pictures by African-American filmmakers has spotlighted over 100 feature-length, short subject, animation, and documentary films.

In addition to juried entries, we invite select films of high regard to be screened. We count Jazztime in that category!

If you're interested, please write back as soon as possible. Please forward any promotional information, i.e. production stills and biographical information by e-mail at your first opportunity. We also need your screening copy immediately. Packages should be mailed to:

Black Arts Alliance, Inc.
1013 Shadow Moss Court
Wilmington, NC 28412

The Black Arts Alliance also confers several honors, including Distinguished Filmmaker, Emerging Filmmaker, and Trailblazer awards. Past recipients include Marco Williams, co-director of "Two Towns of Jasper," Hollywood stuntwoman April Weeden-Washington, and Wilmington native Anthony Hemingway, assistant director of HBO's "The Wire."

Our 2006 Emerging Filmmaker Award winner is music video director Lenny Bass. The 2006 Trailblazer Award winner is Dwayne McDuffie, co-creator of the hit animation series "The Justice League". Both will join us for the 2006 festival. The full program will be available online shortly.

Other festival highlights include Kiddy Cinema, free screenings of films suitable for young audiences, and an awards ceremony at which all filmmakers will be recognized, including jury prize winners.

The Black Arts Alliance, Inc., founded in August, 1998, is a multi-disciplinary arts organization which serves as an advocate for arts and artists, nurtures emerging and veteran artistic talent, and develops new works in the performing, visual, and literary arts. We have developed a loyal following of arts enthusiasts representing a broad cross-section of the community through distinctive programming, including our signature Cine Noir festival. We are recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization by the Internal Service Service.

Kudos!

What's the chance of you hiring an animator like me to work for you? I've just graduated from doing a Bachelor of Animation in Australia and am looking for a place to put my talent to work. I am willing to move country if there is a job available. :)

Michael:

Well I thought I'd drop you a line. My most favorite job of all time was as your studio manager and Assistant producer. A week doesn't go by that I don't miss working for you. The studio was amazing and being able to launch
Sporn-O-Graphics with you was an incredible opportunity. Being a part of Ira, Jazztime, Talking Eggs and all the rest was a great time in my life. And HEY, if you're ever looking, here I am. Best of everything, Denise.

I am looking for a new copy of "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel" either on video or DVD. Do you still produce it? My grandchildren have worn out our one and only copy. Thank you, Susan

In Maryland, http://www.mcps.k12.md.us/departments/itv/ TV channel, they were showing Mr. Sporn films this morning.
-The Little Match Girl (which made me cry @ 45 :-))
-Red Shoes
-The Story of the Dancing Frog
-Jazztime Tale

He is very talented, and his dedication and passion for his work is very admirable.

Growing up in Central Europe (Budapest), watching lot of Russian/Chech/Polish/Hungarian/East German animated films.
I have a real craving even now to see some quality animations.
Michael Sporn does that, and I thank him for it.

(I am a big fan of Jan Svankmajer too.)
