Even though he quit smoking in January, it was Yvan’s mission to publicly smoke through an entire pack of cigarettes before the midnight cut-off on Saturday. NYC’s public buildings, including restaurants and bars, are now officially smoke free. I suspect this sign will soon be taken down at Waverly Diner, where we had brunch.

Feeling Lost
March 30th, 2003 · 8 Comments
I’m writing this from an Internet Cafe on Bleecker Street near my apartment. I can hear the cars whizzing by outside on the wet pavement. It’s a cold, windy, rainy day. Our cable access has been down at home. That means no internet access or tv since Friday, and because I was at home on Friday, and not at work, it’s been about 3 full days for me. I’m feeling a little lost and going a little insane. I have read an entire 307 page book called The Keepers of Truth.

Last night at Spa, while weeding my way through the crowded dance floor, I rubbed up against a shortish, roundish man with unruly, curly brown hair. He brushed against me and his stomach touched my side, I remember thinking “he feels soft, cushy”. It was Ron Jeremy. A few minutes later Matthew saw Tobey Maguire in the white room. But the real star we were all there to see: Eddie V. He danced his @$$ off!

(Almost) Free Drinking
March 26th, 2003 · 4 Comments

So, the weekend before last, I was at this bar called Mad River on the Upper East Side and I filled out some survey/contest form and never thought about it again. Last week they called me to say that I won a free night at their bar. Me and another friend of mine could get in for free and drink for 2 hours and as many people as I could round up could do the same but for $5. Tonight was the night.
Larry had his army tank of an Expedition in the city and volunteered to give us a ride. It seemed like a good idea, but it ended up taking 1 hour to get there (dude, West Side Highway!!!) and we had to listen to the grumpy old men, Larry & Dennis, argue the entire time. Once we got there I was reminded again of what a cheap, frat party Mad River is. That place totally screws you on everything. After a couple drinks it didn’t really matter, it’s who you’re with and not where you are that matters.
We were talking about the Oscars and discussing CNN’s coverage of the war while it played on the bar TV, as Larry observed that “It’s a strange state of affairs when the best rapper is white, the best golfer is black, France thinks you’re arrogant, Germany won’t fight, and the tallest basketball player is Chinese.”
Afterward, while Jeannette went to The Food Emporium for pizza topping Reeses, Mark, Dennis, Eleanor and I went and got slices at Pisa Pizza. This gravity-defying spaghetti display is far-out after a few drinks. Nice reflection too..
