Travelling on a Holiday in the Snow is a Nightmare

December 26th, 2002 · No Comments

So.. I had a good time at home for the holidays.. more on that later.. but yesterday I was dropped off at the Milwaukee airport at 3:00 in the afternoon and just got home now. 2 a.m.

I should have recognized I was on a streak of bad luck almost immediately after arriving at the airport.. but I didn’t. My suitcase was overweight, I couldn’t get money from the ATM, I waited on line for a half hour at the wrong concourse, and when I got to the right concourse, my new belt (Christmas gift) set off the security alarm allowing me to get some extra special treatment.

When I got to Chicago I found out that NYC was being dumped on with snow. La Guardia was being closed off and on. Flights were cancelled. A crazy mess. My flight boarded on time, but we sat for 45 minutes on the runway in Chicago, were in a hold pattern for about an hour above New York, and then took a half hour on arrival to wait for our gate to be plowed out. La Guardia is total chaos right now. People everywhere. Snowed in. Sleeping on the floors. Baggage was a nightmare. Luggage everywhere. You can hardly walk around down there. Then I got to wait on line for 40 minutes outside, freezing, in the snow, to step into an ankle-deep puddle of slush to get into a cab.

11 hours after I was dropped off at the airport I’m finally home. 11 hours. I could be in Africa by now.

Really looking forward to getting up for work in a few hours. I think I forgot my toothbrush at my ’s house.

And why does the apartment reek like gas? Seriously. I’m going to puke.
