Tonight I saw the movie Frida with Theresa and some other friends. I really enjoyed it. Salma Hayek‘s transformation into Frida Kahlo was amazing (and usually she really starts to annoy me half-way through any movie that she’s in). I’ve seen Frida’s work before, of course, but after seeing this movie I feel like I understand it more. Her uncompromising spirit, her stormy relationship with Diego Rivera, her strong political views, her persistent injuries: they all contribute to the dark feeling in her work. Oh, and the cinematography is beautiful. And, oh, but Ashley Judd sucked as Tina Modotti.
