The waiters at Tattoria Spaghetto on the corner of 6th and Bleecker have their own charming way of cat-calling in their cute Italian accents that goes something like this:
Waiter 1: Ciao, bella!
Waiter 2: How about some pasta!?
Waiter 3: Bellissimo!
Waiter 4: Ciao, bella!
Even if I just walk by they will kiss their fingertips and hold them out to me from the doorway, as one did just 10 minutes ago on my walk home. (See “Perfetto” in this Sicilian Culture Guide.)
Somehow this all seems more charming to me than when the normal jerks on the street make American gestures and say things in English.
