Saturday Night: Great Music, Great Friends

September 16th, 2002 · 2 Comments

I really need to get an internet connection at home. I’m going insane and Ruby is very lonely.

This weekend was all about great music, great friends and a great time. Saturday night my friends Dave Ford and Corby Hawks played a set at The Bitter End, which claims to be New York City’s oldest rock club. They sounded excellent together. I can’t wait to see them perform again in a few weeks at Lion’s Den.

Afterwards, and after much frustration with The Bitter End’s drinking and seating policies, we headed over to Vintage Jazz Cafe where Dave’s friend was playing stand-up bass in a jazz trio. Dave sat in for one song. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing - a welcome change from the rowdy, loud, stop-me-now-or-I’m-going-to-puke vibe down on Bleecker Street.

The night ended with seven of us going up to Julie’s rooftop and sitting above the city, overlooking Washington Square Park, under the racing night clouds, drinking Sierra Nevada and listening to Corby play guitar and sing songs for hours at our request.

Corby Hawks… Would that be a blond girl who walks with a slight limp, about 30 years old, maybe a little younger?
